Malaysia’s palm oil prices unlikely to drop next year

(File photo: Reuters) Hanoi (VNA) - Analysts remain upbeat on palm oil prices next year after Malaysia's palm oil inventory fell to a three-month low in November and exports to China remained steady. MIDF Research said in a report that tight supply and expected strong demand from palm oil importing countries such as China would keep crude palm oil (CPO) prices to improve next year. It anticipated CPO prices to trend higher at 2,450 and 2,600 ringgit per tonne in 2020 and 2021, respectively. The year-to-date average CPO price stayed at about 2,070 ringgit per tonne, which was within its target CPO price of 2,090 ringgit per tonne this year. Indonesia raises budget deficit to 2.2 percent of GDP
Indonesian Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara (Source: https://theinsiderstories.com/) – The Indonesian government has expanded the budget deficit to 2.2 percent of the gross domestic products (GDP) followed the potential short fall on tax revenues around 200 trillion Rp (14.29 billion USD). Initially, in the 2019 State Budget, Indonesia targeted the budget deficit at 1.84 percent of GDP. Based on 2019 State Budget data, the government targeted to raise tax revenues to 1,557.5 trillion Rp. But, until October the realization of the tax revenues recorded around 1,000 trillion Rp. Talking with the press, Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara blamed the uncertain global economic conditions as the reasoned the tax revenues lower that this year target. Former Malaysian PM Najib Razak charged with money laundering, power abuse
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak (Photo: upi.com) Kuala Lumpur (VNA) – Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was charged on September 20 with money laundering and abuse of power in connection to the case of the state investment fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). The charges include four counts of abuse of power, involving in 2.3 billion ringgit (556.3 million USD), and 21 counts of money laundering. Najib, 65, has denied all the charges. The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested Najib on September 19 for new corruption charges related to 1MDB. Najib was arrested on July 3 for corruption-related charges over his involvement in the multi-billion-dollar 1MBD scandal. He was later released on bail.
