U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg will go on a four-day, six-state tour starting Tuesday, visiting Florida, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Ohio, Nevada and New Hampshire to talk up the infrastructure law. Buttigieg will tout grants approved in the November 2021 infrastructure law including $12 million for the Port of Tampa, $20 million to help complete the Nevada Pacific Parkway connection and expand capacity for dual access to Union Pacific Railroad and Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail lines and $24.5 million reconstruct roadways and pathways connecting to a major amusement park in Ohio. US wants airlines to boost help for stranded, delayed passengers
Buttigieg, who has faced pressure from U.S. lawmakers who want airlines to offer better service or face stiff fines, has clashed with major U.S. airlines over who is to blame for tens of thousands of flight delays and cancellations this summer. In letters to major, regional and low-cost carrier chief executives made public Friday, Buttigieg said his department (USDOT) is "contemplating options" to write new rules "that would further expand the rights of airline passengers." He urged airlines to ensure adequate services for passengers facing delays and cancellations, asking them "at a minimum" to provide meal vouchers for delays of 3 hours or more and lodging for those who must wait overnight because of disruptions within the carrier’s control. "Regardless of the cause of the delays or cancelations, the Department expects airlines to provide timely and responsive customer service during and after periods of flight disruptions," Buttigieg wrote. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Natural disasters are becoming more unpredictable and extreme due to climate change, causing more extensive damage to people and property. In Vietnam, since the beginning of this year, natural disasters have been increasingly irregular, with unseasonal rains and flooding accompanied by thunder storms , strong winds and storms. From March 30 to April 2, heavy rain in the central region caused widespread damage, especially to agricultural production. From April 15 to 28, 41 earthquakes were recorded in Kon Plong district in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum. In April, May and mid-June, prolonged downpours pushed water levels in the north to historic highs. Such torrential rain has led to landslides and flash floods in mountainous areas, as well as flooding in urban areas and industrial zones, especially in Hanoi, Vinh Yen, Bac Ninh and Bac … [Read more...] about Vietnam improves forecasting in face of natural disasters

It is not surprising that many CEOs feel overwhelmed as they face the climate challenge. There is no shortage of headlines highlighting the trillions of US dollars it will take to green the economy. And the opportunities are endless, with possibilities to exponentially grow customer demand for green products. Yet the day-to-day work of turning ambition into reality is undeniably challenging. Consider that 31 per cent of companies missed scope 1 and 2 targets they set for 2020 through the Science Based Targets initiative, despite the fact that these emissions are the most controllable and there are many options available to address them (see figure). Of course, all of this is not happening in a green vacuum. Executives are trying to pursue their decarbonisation targets during a period of turbulence that has created historic levels of uncertainty and numerous difficulties. To translate ambition into delivery, leaders will need to adopt a mindset that we call visionary pragmatism. … [Read more...] about From carbon ambition to delivery
