When the AQI, which measures daily air pollution, is in this range, the air quality is considered unhealthy and people may begin to experience some adverse health effects. Members of sensitive groups may experience more serious effects. Monitoring results in the urban areas of Trung Yên, Kim Liên, Mỹ Đình, Tân Mai and Tây Mỗ showed the AQI had been high. The index was between 103 and 131, meaning the air quality in all monitored areas was poor. Specifically, the index in Trung Yên was 109, in Minh Khai-Bắc Từ Liêm was 129 and Hoàn Kiếm was 105. Infectious diseases spread as cold weather hits Vietnam
An increase in cold-related illnesses such as high fever, diarrhea, and flu amongst children have been recorded in big hospitals in Hanoi including Bach Mai, National Children Hospital, Thanh Nhan, Saint Paul. Deputy Director of the National Children Hospital Tran Minh Dien said that more than 30 kids catching flu are being treated in the hospital. Most of them have suffered complications of pneumonia. Worse, ten measles children have not been vaccinated and some whooping cough children are under three months old in the hospital. Saint Paul Hospital admitted more than 300 children a day, a surge of 10 percent compared to November while the Lung Hospital receives 300 adult inpatients daily, an increase of 1.5 times compared to previous month. Military leaders guilty of violating defense land management rules
The committee said Sunday that Party Navy leaders including Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, former Vice Minister of National Defense, Vice Admiral Nguyen Van Tinh and Rear Admiral Le Van Dao were responsible for several land management violations. Their violations resulted in major financial losses and badly affected the reputation of the Communist Party and the People’s Navy, the committee said. Further details were not revealed. It advised that party authorities duly punish the leaders who have committed the violations. The committee also said that two leaders of Military Zone 9, which is in charge of Vietnam's southern Mekong Delta, have committed violations in using land that belonged to the defense forces.
