Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army Rear Admiral Nguyen Trong Binh and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Quoc Dung co-chaired the event with Australia’s Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Richard Maude and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Defence Peter Tesch. At the dialogue, the two sides reviewed the strong developments in bilateral relations and reaffirmed their countries’ importance in each other’s foreign policies. V League schedule changed to accommodate World Cup qualifiers, AFC Cup matches
Match week 25, scheduled for October 6, has been moved to October 19 with match week 26 will be played on either October 22 or 23. This will enable many players to rest and train for events like the two legs of Hanoi FC’s AFC Cup inter-zonal final on September 25 and October 2 and the national team’s World Cup qualifiers while also ensuring the under-22 team have time to recover and prepare for the 2019 SEA Games at the end of November. Hanoi FC had sought a change in their V. League fixtures since the second leg of the AFC Cup final on October 2 will be played in North Korea. They estimate it will take three days to travel back to Vietnam afterward while their match against Quang Nam was scheduled for October 6. Hanoi are in the hunt for the V. League 1 title and the match could well determine their chances. V. League schedule change to facilitate Vietnam’s World Cup campaign
The VFF discussed the issue last week with V. League 2019 organizers and decided to move round 23 games to September 15. The round was originally planned on August 30, 31 and September 1, leaving the players just three days to train and prepare for their first World Cup qualification game – an away match against Thailand. The national team will gather on August 26, one day after round 22 of V. League, and get 10 days to get ready for the Thailand clash. The location for the game is still unclear as the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok is under maintenance for the U23 Asian Cup that will take place in January 2020. In the second round of the World Cup 2022 Asian qualifiers, Vietnam are placed in group G with UAE, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Vietnam will play their first game away on September 5 against Thailand then clash with Malaysia at home on October 10. Five days later they will play in Indonesia. New approaches needed to address malnutrition in ethnic minority children: WB report
Children at a kindergarten (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam needs new approaches that are designed based on geographic conditions and cultural characteristics of ethnic minority communities in order to address the persistent malnutrition among ethnic minority children, said a report of the World Bank. The WB released the report titled “Persistent Malnutrition in Ethnic Minority Communities of Viet Nam: Issues and Options or Policy and Interventions” in Hanoi on December 10. Addressing the event, WB Country Director Ousmane Dione said Vietnam has made impressive progress in reducing malnutrition in children in the past two decades, but the disparity between ethnic minority children and their peers in plain areas is widening. He said priority should be given to provinces with highest malnutrition rates in the next period in order to create substantial changes.
