Lopsided relationship scares investors off PPP

Overhead view of a project under the North-South Highway Project. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNS/VNA) - Nearly 18 months since the introduction of the 2021 Law on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in Vietnam, it's still difficult to get investors to warm up to PPP projects despite the huge potential for growth, as the country ramps up efforts to build modern infrastructure, said industry experts and policymakers in a meeting in Hanoi on June 21. The Law on Public-Private Partnership was supposed to, in theory, address three major problems endemic in Vietnam’s infrastructure projects; slow progression, overbudget and poor quality. However, according to many in the field, the law has failed to tackle a number of fundamental issues, which has discouraged and hindered investors to commit to infrastructure projects. Notably, it noted, some localities and establishments are afraid that they may commit wrongdoings or undergo examination and inspection, so they didn’t dare to buy supplies. In addition, resignation among health workers in the public sector has increased, the MoH said, blaming that on low salaries … [Read more...] about PM requests prompt settlement of medical supply shortages, health workers’ resignation

Jinwoo Song, CEO of BAEMIN Vietnam As online food delivery platforms grow, one of the most pressing concerns is the volume of plastic waste generated throughout its operations and how it is tackled. The effectiveness in which different countries are dealing with the plastic waste produced by online food delivery will be dependent on how well developed their recycling infrastructure is and the speed of online food delivery has grown. “While the recent discussion often revolves around the plastic waste only, I think it’s equally important to review other aspects of environmental challenges posed by the food technology industry that is food waste and the increase of carbon footprint”, shared Jinwoo. The pandemic has prompted the use of single-use, disposable food packaging as consumers believe single-use packaging was safer and more hygienic. Even though they have become more environmentally conscious, it’s unlikely that they will consider keeping leftover food for future meals … [Read more...] about BAEMIN extends green journey in Vietnam
