On rainy 150th birthday, nation celebrates the meaning of Canada

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau kicked off celebrations on Saturday to mark the country's 150th birthday amid heavy security as many citizens braved incessant rains and long delays to reach the main site in the nation's capital. About 500,000 people were expected to be in Ottawa for the long-anticipated Canada Day festivities, which features a large outdoor celebration in front of the national Parliament, complete with acrobats, fireworks and musicians including Irish singer Bono and other members of rock band U2. Trudeau, accompanied by Britain's Prince Charles, shook hands with some of the thousands of revelers who converged on Canada's capital Ottawa. Deputy Prime Minister seeks to drive education with ties (10-12-2007) HA NOI — Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan has discussed new possibilities for co-operation with representatives from Canada, France and India. Nhan, who doubles as Minister of Education and Training, on Saturday received representatives from several well-known French colleges, who are attending a European education exhibition in Ha Noi. At the meeting, Nhan spoke highly of France’s education system, expressing his hope that more Vietnamese students would have the chance to study there, particularly for medical and technology-related subjects. Canada has been a long-stand ing supporter of Viet Nam’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO). How would you assess Viet Nam’s efforts in its bid? Canada’s Minister of International Development and La Francophonie Marie-Claude Bibeau (VOVworld) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh received on Monday Canada’s Minister of International Development and La Francophonie Marie-Claude Bibeau, who is on a visit to Vietnam from Sunday to Wednesday. Minister Bibeau hailed Vietnam’s important role in the region and said Canada hopes boost bilateral ties with Vietnam in politics, diplomacy, trade-investment, education-science, and to increase development aids for Vietnam.
