IF THE CAP FITS: Joey Barton has found himself in more hot water. Photo Fleetwood Town FC Paul Kennedy Joey Barton is a complex character. He is, or rather was, a talented footballer, outspoken, opinionated, controversial, and at times incredibly stupid. On the pitch he carved out quite a decent career. Between 2002 and 2011 he made more than 200 appearances for Manchester City and Newcastle United, and he’s also had a dabble on the continent, playing 25 times for Marseille in France. While his international career isn’t really anything to write home about having only represented his country on one occasion, for a kid who grew up in Huyton, a tough, working class area of Liverpool, it is fair to say Joey has done well for himself. Or is it? Off the pitch, Barton’s behaviour has been nothing short of disgraceful. Twice he has been convicted of violence charges, one of which saw him jailed for six months for common assault and affray. He has been charged … [Read more...] about When are you going to grow up Joey?
When do border collies stop growing
Viet Nam News MCALLEN — President Donald Trump warned of murderers and gangsters spreading across the country during a visit to the US-Mexican border on Thursday to push his demand for a multi-billion dollar wall. Trump used the backdrop of the Rio Grande border river at McAllen, Texas, to ramp up what has already turned into a hugely messy political fight with Democratic opponents, resulting in the shutdown of swaths of the US government. With typical rhetorical flourishes, Trump said that only building more walls along the Mexican border could stop an onslaught of violent crime. "They just go where there’s no security and you don’t even know the difference between Mexico and the United States," he told a meeting of border patrol officers. "They have women tied up, they have tape over their mouths, electrical tape." "If we had a barrier of any kind, a powerful barrier, whether its steel or concrete..., we would … [Read more...] about Trump pushes wall plan in US-Mexico border visit
US President Donald Trump delivers an address to the nation on funding for a border wall from the Oval Office of the White House in Washington DC on Jan 8, 2019. (Photo: AFP / POOL / CARLOS BARRIA) "There is a growing humanitarian and security crisis at our southern border," Trump said in a rare live Oval Office address to the nation, adding that every day US Customs and Border Patrol agents "encounter thousands of illegal immigrants trying to enter our country". Trump repeated his call for a wall on the border, calling it "absolutely critical to border security". He repeated his demand for US$5.7 billion in funding for a wall on the border with Mexico, but stopped short of calling for a much-touted state of emergency. "As part of an overall approach to border security, law enforcement professionals have requested US$5.7 billion for a physical barrier," Trump said. Trump had spent days mulling declaring a state of emergency along the border that would have given him powers to bypass … [Read more...] about US Mexico border situation a “growing crisis”: Donald Trump
Scott Morrison scrambled to the front of the pack after a conservative coup ousted Malcolm Turnbull as leader of the Liberal prty and Australian prime minister. (Photo: AFP/David Gray) Behind the scenes of a battle for the leadership of the Liberal party that erupted this week between ousted Malcolm Turnbull and right-wing former policeman Peter Dutton, Morrison was quietly canvassing support among his colleagues. The hardline former immigration minister, who took credit for "stop the boats" - a harsh policy to prevent asylum-seekers from entering Australia at its sea ports - billed himself as a man of faith and family who could get things done. The 50-year-old's stealth candidacy reflected aspirations he has had since he entered parliament in 2007, representing the Sydney seat of Cook - the site of Australia's last race riots. The son of a policeman, Morrison - known as "ScoMo" - becomes Australia's seventh prime minister in 11 years, replacing a man who became the latest in a long … [Read more...] about Scott ‘Stop the boats’ Morrison: Australia’s latest PM
Photo: thaitribune.org The key factor driving the growth is increasing demand for Thai goods as the country’s trade with minor cities in neighboring countries has been improving. Adul Chotinisakorn, deputy director-general of the Foreign Trade Department, said the Young Entrepreneur Network Development Programme (YEN-D) is instrumental to border trade growth. The YEN-D was launched in 2015 to encourage Thai entrepreneurs to invest abroad and gain an insight into the regional markets and trade-investment regulations of Thailand’s neighbors. The program provided farmiliarisation trips and special training courses for young business leaders in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand to help them better understanding of the countries’ cultures and regulations. According to Adul, Thai border trade rose by 12.7 percent from 2016 and it has expanded between 10-14 percent annually over the past five years.
