The newly-signed EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement will usher in a new era of two-way trade in meat, seafood, and dairy products Photo: Le Toan The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which has just been signed, is expected to open up two-way trade opportunities for Vietnamese and EU products. The EU has committed to remove tariffs on live animals, buffalo meat, beef, and pork imported from Vietnam right after the agreement comes into effect, as well as gradually remove tariffs in five or seven years for poultry and foods processed from beef and pork. According to the EVFTA, Vietnam will also remove import tariffs of many EU foodstuff product lines. For example, frozen pork meat will be duty free after seven years, beef after three years, dairy products after a maximum of five years and food preparations after a maximum of seven years. The Hanoitimes - ASEAN must actively respond to its members’ calls on the South China Sea issues. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has not played a significant role in diffusing the heated quarrel among disputants in the South China Sea (SCS), far below what is expected from this group when dealing with a major regional security concern. Similarities between the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines crashes, confirmed by black box data, have focused attention on an anti-stalling system used in the new Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft. The crash of an Ethiopian Airlines plane has put the spotlight on an anti-stalling system used on the 737 Max 8 aircraft. (AFP/Michael TEWELDE) The Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) is an automated safety feature on the 737 Max 8 designed to prevent the plane from entering into a stall, or losing lift. Both the Lion Air jet, which crashed in October, killing 189 people, and the Ethiopian Airlines aircraft, which went down a week ago on Sunday, leaving 157 people dead, were fitted with the system. Both planes experienced similarly erratic steep climbs and descents and fluctuating airspeeds before crashing shortly after takeoff. A malfunction of the system was implicated in the Lion Air accident in Indonesia. The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said findings from … [Read more...] about Ethiopian Airlines crash: What is the MCAS system on the Boeing 737 Max 8?
Coffee Photo by mgift One afternoon in November 2017, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited Vy Café on Le Thanh Ton Street in HCMC’s District 1 and had a coffee and a chat with Nguyen Cong Hiep, a former employee of the Canadian consulate. He was sitting on a small folding chair on the sidewalk with a plastic stool for a table like any regular Saigon coffee drinker. This is a typical way of enjoying coffee at this café. Trudeau’s visit brought the shop huge popularity. Photo by VnExpress/Giang Huy In November 2016 Britain’s Prince William was spotted in a café very similar to Vy on a sidewalk in Hanoi’s Pho Bac Street during his first trip to Vietnam.
