Relax ‘unfriendly’ visa policies, foreign tourists urge Vietnam

Justin Douglas from the U.S. said Vietnam should return to the old three-month visa policy to give tourists time to explore and discover the country at their pace. Starting March 15, Vietnam has allowed quarantine-free travel and resumed its pre-pandemic visa exemption policy for citizens from 24 countries, including Japan, South Korea and European economies. However, the country only issues a one-month single-entry e-visa to visitors from other countries, and has not resumed issuing three-month visas as was the norm earlier. It would be very difficult to do a trip like that in 30 days, which requires ample time to prepare in Hanoi beforehand and relax there afterward." Justin said Vietnam is his favorite country and he has been waiting to go back, but with a 30-day maximum limit, he decided he … [Read more...] about Relax ‘unfriendly’ visa policies, foreign tourists urge Vietnam

May 20, 2022 by hanoitimes.vn Leave a Comment

It’s the time to accelerate ongoing efforts by including examinations and treatments of severe wasting children in the revision of law. UNICEF is calling for countries, including Vietnam to strengthen nutrition policies and include treatment for child wasting under health and long-term development funding schemes, to save the lives of roughly 230,000 children in the country per year. UNICEF’s global evidence shows the rising levels of malnutrition in children and all forms of this disease are prevalent in Vietnam, where around 230,000 under-5 children suffer from severe acute malnutrition (SAM) annually. The worrying prevalence of undernutrition among Vietnamese children calls for a new approach to bring about transformational nutrition outcomes. Photo: UNICEF Malnutrition is listed as a disease in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) International Classification of Diseases, and it is preventable and treatable. Including examinations of and treatment for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in children in a revision of Vietnam’s Law on Medical Examination and Treatment would save the lives of 230,000 children each year, according to Rana Flowers, UNICEF representative in Vietnam. In a press release on Wednesday, UNICEF provided evidence of increasingly widespread malnutrition in children around the globe, including in Vietnam. Over 230,000 Vietnamese children under five years old suffer from SAM each year, according to a 2009 national nutrition survey. The most visible and lethal type of malnutrition is wasting and severe wasting – conditions where an individual weighs far below what is healthy for their height, resulting in weakened immune systems and potentially ending in death, UNICEF warned. Globally, at least 13.6 million children under five years old suffer from severe wasting, causing one out of every five deaths in this age group, the agency said. Vietnam has created a good … [Read more...] about Policies targeting youth malnutrition would save 230,000 children in Vietnam annually: UNICEF
