Truong Dinh Hoe Viet Nam’s tra-basa (catfish) fish exporters will likely find it more challenging to export to the US market after the US Department of Commerce (DOC) imposed high anti-dumping duties on frozen catfish fillets imported from Viet Nam. Vietnam News Agency and Truong Dinh Hoe, general secretary of the Viet Nam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), discussed some solutions to the new challenges. What are the main points of the DOC’s 13th administrative review of the anti-dumping duties on Viet Nam’s frozen catfish fillets (POR 13)? How is it different from the previous review? This is the thirteenth time Vietnamese enterprises have been subject to the DOC’s review of tariffs for shipments exported between August 2015 and July 2016 to decide the final tax rate for these shipments. The new point in this review is that this is the first time that businesses exporting catfish to the US have to declare new production factors for the DOC … [Read more...] about US door still open for Vietnamese catfish exports

Illustrative photo (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam’s tra fish exporters can still access the US market despite the US Department of Commerce (DOC)’s imposition of high anti-dumping duties on Vietnamese tra fish, said Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) Truong Dinh Hoe. Hoe explained that Vietnamese businesses have brought the case to the US Commerce Court, which will review the DOC’s tax imposition and may ask the department to adjust the rate. This is not the first time Vietnam has filed a lawsuit against the DOC, he said, noting that in previous cases, the court had required the DOC to reduce duties levied on Vietnamese products. “Therefore, we believe that the case would end with a similar result, which mean the DOC will have to re-calculate the tax rate” the official said. Therefore, the door to the US market is still open for Vietnamese tra exporters, according to Hoe. … [Read more...] about Doors still open for Vietnamese tra fish in US: VASEP
VietNamNet Bridge - The vast forests in the Central Highlands are still being cut down though local authorities have vowed to prevent illegal loggers. The Kon Tum provincial People’s Committee on June 28 organized a press conference about forest protection and management in the province. However, a lot of questions about solutions to protect the forests after the Prime Minister ordered to close natural forests were unanswered. At the press conference, Nguyen Huu Hai, deputy chair of the province, only showed some general solutions to the deforestation, saying that the local authorities would ‘strengthen propaganda; reorganize the forestry sector; request forest owners to take responsibility for the damaged forests and check all wood processing workshops’. According to Bui Thanh Binh, chief secretariat of the Kon Tum provincial People’s Committee, only 603,000 hectares of forests, including 546,000 hectares of natural forests had been left by … [Read more...] about Are Central Highlands’ forests still open for illegal loggers?
To get a sense of how Vietnam has emerged from its bad-debt crisis of three years ago, consider the following. Shares of the nation’s three biggest banks have climbed an average 62 percent this year, with Bank for Investment & Development of Vietnam being the best-performing frontier-market stock of 2015. Non-performing loans as a proportion of all lending are about one sixth of their levels from three years ago and loans for real-estate purchases are booming. Little surprise, then, that investors such as Dragon Capital Ltd., the country’s second-biggest asset manager, and Maybank Kim Eng Securities Ltd. are so bullish on Vietnamese banks, even as valuations soar. "Next year, banks will lend more money and profits will take off," said Bill Stoops, who’s been adding bank stocks to the $1.3 billion he helps oversee as chief investment officer at Dragon Capital in Ho Chi Minh City. "There’s still room for further gains." That confidence is testament to … [Read more...] about Vietnam banks topping world are still tempting to Dragon Capital
