The Vietnam News Agency’s news website VietnamPlus officially added Chinese news to its mobile web version on October 15, to help readers surf the news using mobile phones. All mobile phones with the pre-installed Chinese Unicode font can access the news at http://mcn.vietnamplus.vn. The Chinese news focuses on politics, society, economics, culture and sports, but will be gradually expanded to include other areas to provide readers with an overall picture of Vietnam . Readers can also surf the news in Vietnamese, English, French and Spanish via the shortcut button available on the homepage. The number of visitors to VietnamPlus using mobile devices has increased rapidly, with a monthly rise of 56 percent in September from August. This figure is expected to grow by 67 percent month on month in October. The Hanoitimes - Mobile broadband subscribers in Vietnam are expected to reach 90 million by 2020, given the increasing affordability of smartphones. VNA launches mobile bilingual news service
HA NOI — VietnamPlus yesterday launched a mobile-web version of its news service, becoming the first news website in Viet Nam to run on website, mobile web and mobiles. Using new technology, the mobile web helps users to quickly surf the news. It is also easy to switch from one category to another. "The mobile application that VietnamPlus started using earlier this year was a technological breakthrough that can connect 80 per cent of mobile-phone users to the news," said Le Quoc Minh, editor-in-chief of VietnamPlus. "We decided to launch this service to prove that a state-run media organisation can be a leader in media technology." Minh said the mobile web would be upgraded in the future to add more functions. Vietnam leads region in mobile Internet growth
More mobile phone users are using their phones to access the Internet, and Vietnam led the region in terms of page-view growth, according to the latest report of Opera Software, developers of Internet browsers, operating system for the web and other platforms.Opera's State of the Mobile Web report for January 2010 also noted that Google and popular social networking sites are among the most visited Internet sites in Southeast Asia using mobile phones. In Southeast Asia, which is a focus of this month's report, page views among the top 10 countries increased by 599 per cent compared to year-ago figures. In December 2009, there were 159 per cent more mobile users worldwide using Opera Mini to access the Web compared to a year ago. "Over 46.3 million people use Opera Mini each month, matching the number of Opera's desktop users for the first time," the report read. This translates to an 11 per cent increase from a month ago.
