Hanoi (VNA) – The 12th Party Central Committee had chosen capable, prestigious and promising candidates for the 13th tenure, according to member of the 12th Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Hau A Lenh. Talking to the press on the sidelines of the on-going 13th National Party Congress, Lenh, who is also Vice President and Secretary General of the VFF Central Committee, emphasised that the 12th Party Central Committee had been very serious in conducting personnel preparations for the 13th National Party Congress. He recalled that at its eighth plenum in October 2018, the 12th Party Central Committee set up sub-committees were set up to conduct preparations for the 13th National Party Congress, including a sub-committee for personnel work. No new COVID-19 cases reported on January 27

Hanoi (VNA) – No new COVID-19 cases were reported in the past 24 hours to 6pm on January 27, keeping the total unchanged at 1,551, according to the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control. The total number of recoveries now stands at 1,430, while the death toll remained at 35. Among patients undergoing treatment at medical establishments across the country, 14 have tested negative for SARS-CoV-2 once, 10 others twice and 12 thrice. At present, 21,86 people who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or entered Vietnam from pandemic-hit areas are under quarantine across the country. Malaysian health ministry inks term sheet agreements with two vaccine suppliers

Kuala Lumpur (VNA) - The Malaysian Ministry of Health on January 26 signed term sheet agreements with two vaccine suppliers, Pharmaniaga Lifescience Sdn Bhd (PLS) and Duopharma (M) Sdn Bhd, for the procurement of 18.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine. The ministry said in a statement that PLS will supply 12 million doses of COVID-19 CORONAVAC, SARS-COV-2 Vaccine (Vero Cell) Inactivated produced by Sinovac Life Science Co. Ltd, which will be distributed in stages beginning April. Duopharma will supply 6.4 million doses of Sputnik V vaccine, produced by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Russia. The vaccine is expected to be distributed in stages by end-March 2021, it said. Singapore: Manufacturing sector silver lining of 2020

Singapore (VNA) – Singapore's manufacturing sector was the silver lining of 2020, with the sector posting growth for the full year, according to data released by the Economic Development Board (EDB) on January 26. The sector expanded 14.3 percent year on year last month. Excluding biomedical manufacturing, output grew 19.8 percent. Overall, manufacturing output increased 7.3 percent last year, compared with 2019. The chemicals cluster grew by 12.3 percent year on year last month, with all segments except petroleum recording output growth. But for the whole of last year, the chemicals cluster's output dipped by 1 percent compared with 2019. The precision engineering cluster picked up 11 percent in December, with the machinery and systems segment growing 12.6 percent on the back of higher output of semiconductor equipment and measuring devices. Footwear sector further penetrates global supply chain

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam’s footwear sector is now beginning to see positive signs after export revenue for footwear and handbags fell 11 percent year-on-year to 19.5 billion USD in 2020, making it one of the sectors hardest hit by COVID-19. Vietnamese companies have proved their capacity in research and development (R&D) and design, according to Chairman of the Vietnam Leather, Footwear and Handbag Association (LEFASO) Nguyen Duc Thuan. Signs show that Vietnam is further penetrating into the leather-footwear supply chain, he said, as the design and R&D processes rake in high added value for products. The domestic supply of materials for the sector now represents 60 percent. Local businesses can take the initiative in producing soles and moulds, as well as packaging and labelling.
