Seniors are set to be the first to get the fourth vaccine shots in the upcoming rollout. — VNA/VNS Photo Hoàng Hiếu HÀ NỘI — The Vietnamese health ministry has asked provincial/municipal health departments to provide the tentative number of vaccines needed for the rollout of second COVID-19 booster shots (fourth doses) before May 25, 2022. The second boosters will for now be for adults over 50 years, or people from 18 years old with immunocompromised conditions from mild to severe level, or people from 18 years old who are at risk of exposure to the virus (frontline healthcare workers, officials, and workers at industrial parks, etc.). COVID-19: Vietnam reports 2,227 new cases on May 13

Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam recorded a total 2,227 new cases of COVID-19 and no death in the past 24 hours to 4pm May 13, according to the Ministry of Health. Hanoi reported the highest number of infections on the day with 495 cases, followed by Nghe An with 123 and Phu Tho with 120. The northern province of Bac Giang added 443 cases to the national log after verifying information. The country has to date logged 10,693,141 COVID-19 cases, including 43,063 deaths. A total 9,065 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on May 13, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,344,029. There are 333 patients needing breathing support. By May 12, the country had injected 216,512,573 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, including 2,192,003 first shots for children from 5 to 11 years old./. US among top important partners of Vietnam: PM Chinh

Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has hailed the U.S.’s policy to support a strong, independent and prosperous Vietnam and affirmed that the U.S. is one of leading partners of the Southeast Asian country. PM Chinh made the statement at his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Washington, D.C on Friday on the sidelines of the ASEAN – U.S. Special Summit that took place on May 12 to 13. Chinh had earlier arrived in the U.S. on Wednesday for his weeklong trip to the country and attendance of the summit, at the invitation of U.S. President Joe Biden. Vietnam PM hails ASEAN-US maritime cooperation

Leaders of the U.S. and the 10-country Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) attended the official working sessions of the ASEAN-US Special Summit on May 13 (Saturday morning Hanoi time). During the summit, the U.S. announced a series of new initiatives, including a $60 million package to expand maritime cooperation, which will entail helping ASEAN countries counter illegal fishing and deploying U.S. Coast Guard personnel to the Indo-Pacific to support maritime training. The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden says the initiative aims to "promote a free and open Indo-Pacific." ASEAN aims to develop global vaccine passport

Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said at a press conference following the 15th ASEAN Health Minister’ Meeting ( AHMM ) on May 14 that ASEAN will issue a joint statement on its countries' adoption of health protocol standards. “This is similar to what we will achieve at the G20," he explained, as cited by Indonesia's Antara news agency. More than 14 million people receive COVID-19 vaccine passports

The Ministry of Health announced that it has issued more than 14 million COVID-19 vaccine passports to the general public, a month from its official rollout on April 15. The passport is now available on the national COVID-19 app PC COVID-19 (available on both iOS and Android systems) or Digital Health (Sổ sức khỏe điện tử) apps. The vaccine passports have 11 fields of information: name, date of birth, nationality, the targeted disease, doses of vaccines received, date of vaccination, lot number of the vaccine batch, type of vaccine, vaccine product received, the vaccine manufacturer, and a code for the certification. Data has been encoded into a QR code. The code will expire after 12 months. Following their expiry, people will be notified, and a new QR code will be created. Vietnam, Singapore agree to further advance parliamentary relations
