The CTV news and the Malay Mail quoted recommended rankings by travel websites and guidebook for travelers in the coming year as saying that Vietnam ranks first in the list. Hanoi proposal to set up tourist police force slammed as ill-conceived, wasteful Authorities in the capital city of Hanoi have proposed establishing a special police force charged with maintaining tourist security but experts said such a force would be ineffective, calling the plan wasteful. Nguyen Van My, chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City-based Lua Viet Tours, said such a force would be costly, but unproductive. "The system is already bulky and inflated it will only increase the burden on taxpayers," he said. "Will the tourist police specialize in protecting tourists exclusively? When dealing with thieves and pickpockets, will they stop to make sure the victims are tourists before pursuing the suspects?" (VOVworld) - Located in Ninh Binh province, 95 km south of Hanoi, Bai Dinh pagoda has become a popular tourist destination in recent years. The pagoda complex holds several Vietnamese records. The ancient Bai Dinh pagoda sits 187m above sea level on top of Dinh Mountain. Dating back over a thousand years, it is oriented towards the west and flanked by two caves. The pagoda nestles into one cave, which is not uncommon among old pagodas in Vietnam. To get to the pagoda, you have to climb 300 steps. Do Ngoc Anh is a tour guide: "There’s a cave called Enlightened Cave. King Le Thanh Tong engraved ideograms there praising the beauty of the site. The ceiling of the cave forms the solid roof of the pagoda which is dedicated to the Buddha and the Mother Goddess. The altar in the cave is decorated with traditional Buddha statues”.
