Vietnam ready to join hands with other countries in COVID-19 fight
Deputy Foreign Minister To Anh Dung emphasised this during a seminar on co-operation in response to immediate medical challenges, held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in co-ordination with the French Embassy on January 15 in Hanoi. Those in attendance at the event included French Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolas Warnery, Kidong Park, chief representative of the World Health Organization (WHO), and Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, chair of the Vietnam-France Friendship and Cooperation Association. They were joined by an array of representatives of a number of ministries, localities, hospitals, and enterprises which work alongside France in the health sector. In that context, with the determination to implement international human rights commitments, including the UPR recommendations that Vietnam has approved, the Vietnamese Government has quickly introduced synchronous and effective policies and measures, with the top priority of controlling epidemics to protect the health of the people; at the same time, minimizing the impact of the epidemic on the economy, maintaining and restoring production and business, ensuring employment, social security and people's lives, especially the vulnerable people. So far, Vietnam has basically controlled the COVID-19 epidemic, leading to a "new normal" state. According to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Vietnam's economic growth is expected to reach 2.4% in 2020, one of the highest rates in the world.
