The event was co-organised by the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre (EPRC), the Frankfurt Zoological Society, the Vietnam National University of Forestry (VNUF)’s student union and the Green for Future club. EPRC Director Caroline Rowley said the programme is part of activities to support the sustainable community-based preservation at Kon Ka Kinh National Park in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai in December 2019. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – Remittances to Vietnam are likely to further increase in 2019 because overseas Vietnamese people believe in the stability of the economy and see better investment opportunities, economist Nguyen Tri Hieu said. He attributed the increasing trust to the government’s various policies to improve the local business climate by simplifying investment procedures and increasing market confidence. Remittances have been forecast to reach 17 billion USD this year by some organisations, he said. The World Bank forecast that about 16.7 billion USD in remittances will flow into Vietnam this year, up 4.6 percent from a year earlier. The BIDV’s Training and Research Institute also made a similar prediction, which will put the Southeast Asian country among the world’s top ten remittance receivers for a third year in a row. Confucius Institute in Vietnam fosters Vietnam-China cultural exchange. (Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Confucius Institute has done its best to foster cultural exchange and friendship between Vietnam and China, said Vice Rector Nguyen Thi Cuc Phuong at a ceremony to mark the institute’s 5th anniversary in Hanoi on December 15. The Confucius Institute, located at the Hanoi University (HANU), was founded in 2014 under a partnership between HANU and Guangxi Normal University (China). The institute offers Chinese language courses and promotes Chinese culture to strengthen the two countries’ friendship, Phuong said. By the end of November this year, about 1,770 students had attended various courses at the institute while over 28,900 people have taken part in cultural events. Vietnam among top ten remittance recipients in 2019
Ho Chi Minh City is among the localities that receives the highest amount of remittances in Vietnam, accounting for up to 50% of the country’s total in recent years. This year, remittance inflow to the southern metropolis has exceeded 4 billion USD and counting. Year-end is the high season for remittance transfers. As a result, local commercial banks have been providing additional transfer services to meet clients’ demands. The country’s total remittances this year are expected to amount to 16.7 billion USD, accounting for 6.4% of national GDP structure.
