Mobile police forces in Vietnam will be furnished with aircraft and ships, in addition to weapons and other equipment, according to a new law passed by the country’s legislature last week. The lawmaking National Assembly approved the Law on Mobile Police at its third session on June 16 with over 91 percent of the votes from 474 delegates present. The law, which has five chapters and 33 articles, will take effect from January 1, 2023 and replace the 2013 Ordinance on Mobile Police. As per the new legislation, mobile police will be equipped not only with weapons, explosives, supporting tools, and vehicles as well as professional technical equipment, but also aircraft and boats to carry out their functions, tasks, and powers. Accordingly, mobile force units will be allowed to use aircraft and boats designated for them to implement their law enforcement activities when necessary. Binh Duong smart city in the namesake southern Vietnamese province was listed in the world’s top seven intelligent communities for the second consecutive year. The Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) and Binh Duong People’s Committee organized a ceremony in the southern province on Tuesday evening to announce the 2022 Top 7 Intelligent Communities of the Year. Binh Duong smart city was named in the Smart21 Communities for the fourth year in a row and Top 7 Intelligent Communities for the second consecutive year in 2022. Vietnam’s budget airline launches Ho Chi Minh City/Hanoi – Mumbai routes
Vietjet has officially launched four more services linking top destinations of Vietnam and India including Ho Chi Minh City/Hanoi – Mumbai and Phu Quoc – New Delhi/Mumbai. The new routes’ launch ceremony was held in Mumbai during the visit of Ho Chi Minh City’s leaders to the Indian city as Vietnam and India mark their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the budget airline said in a press release on Wednesday. The Phu Quoc – Mumbai route will operate four weekly flights every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, starting from September 8. The services between Phu Quoc and New Delhi will commence on September 9, with three weekly flights on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Vietnam refutes rumor that prize-winning environmentalist was jailed for climate-related activities
Vietnamese influential climate activist Nguy Thi Khanh was jailed for tax evasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed on Thursday, refuting the rumor that she was criminally charged for her climate-related activities. Khanh was sentenced to 24 months in prison for tax evasion during her trial at the Hanoi People’s Court on June 17. The investigation and hearing were carried out in line with the law, and the trial was held publicly, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang answered the questions from foreign media during a regular press meeting on Thursday. The defendant had all her rights guaranteed in accordance with the law, Hang added. Vietnam Airlines licensed to operate extended flight range
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has licensed Vietnam Airlines to operate Extended Diversion Time Operations (EDTOs) aircraft with two engines, reaching 207 minutes for Boeing 787-9 aircraft and 240 minutes for Airbus A350 aircraft. EDTO are any operation by an airplane with two or more turbine engines where the diversion time to an en-route alternate aerodrome is greater than the threshold time established by the State of the Operator, according to a definition by the International Civil Aviation Organization. For example, if an aircraft is rated for EDTO-180, it means that it is able to fly with full load and just one engine for three hours. The higher the EDTO rate of an airline’s aircraft is, the farther the aircraft can fly away from the alternate airport, helping the carrier to arrange a shorter, more direct route, saving time and fuel. Vietnam agriculture ministry urges aid for fishermen as rising fuel prices keep them ashore
The constant rise in fuel prices has caused up to 55 percent of 99,000 fishing boats throughout Vietnam to stay ashore to avoid losses, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, which is calling for financial supports for fishermen. Fuel has become a so huge expense that many fishermen in the country are having trouble making a living. Gasoline and oil demand for fishing activities averages out at 330 million liters per month, according to the agriculture ministry, while the price of diesel 0.05S, the main fuel for fishing vessels, has spiked by 65 percent, or VND11,441 (US$0.49) per litter, since December 2021. In total, fuel costs needed to maintain normal fishing activities have skyrocketed by about VND3.776 trillion ($162.4 million) a month. While fuel costs usually account for 45-60 percent of fishing expenses, the other costs have also increased by 10-15 percent, raising the total expenses by 35-48 percent on average. Vietnam ranks amongst most optimistic tourism communities in Asia-Pacific
Vietnam was recently named amongst the top three Asia-Pacific countries where people have regained their confidence in travel. According to the Travel Confidence Index, a report commissioned by leading online travel company Booking.com, the Vietnamese population is the second most confident in travel, with 85 percent of Vietnamese travelers sharing that they intend to travel at some point in the next 12 months. Numbers one and two on the list were India (86 percent) and China (79 percent). The online survey, which polled 11,000 travelers from 11 countries and territories across Asia and Oceania between April and May 2022, aimed to track the impact of geopolitical and societal diversities in the region, as well as the varied response to the COVID-19 pandemic, on overall confidence levels when it comes to travel.
