Hanoi (VNA) - The first round of the Innovation Partnership Grants, part of the Aus4Innovation programme which aims to help strengthen the Vietnamese innovation system and prepare for Vietnam’s economic and digital future, has been launched. These grants will provide targeted financial support to help scale already tested activities that address emerging challenges or opportunities in any sector of Vietnam’s innovation system, according to the Australian Embassy in Vietnam. Grants of between 100,000 AUD and 1,000,000 AUD will be awarded on a competitive basis to existing partnerships between Australian and Vietnamese institutions for activities that can demonstrate a clear pathway for scale or sustainability in Vietnam. Grantees will have up to 12 months to implement their proposed activities. UNESCO recognition The Trang An Landscape Complex covers 6,172ha in the districts of Hoa Lu, Gia Vien, Nho Quan, Tam Diep Town and Ninh Binh City. The complex is surrounded by a buffer zone of 6,079ha, mostly comprising paddy fields and villages. As a mixed cultural and natural property, the Trang An Landscape Complex contains three protected areas, including Hoa Lu Ancient Capital; Trang An-Tam Coc-Bich Dong Scenic Landscape; and Hoa Lu Special-Use Forest. In 2014, the World Heritage Committee of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recognized the Trang An Landscape Complex as the World Cultural and Natural Heritage site based on three criteria: Culture, aestheticism, and geology-geomorphology. The newest comer to this thriving field is the FujiMart supermarket that opened in Hanoi in December 2018, a joint venture between Japanese trading house Sumitomo and local retail and real estate conglomerate BRG Group. Other retail giants have expanded their distribution systems in the country. In mid-November, the Central Group from Thailand opened the GO! My Tho trade center in the city of My Tho in the southwestern province of Tien Giang. The group said it would pour an additional US$500 million into Vietnam to open 500 additional retail outlets in the country in the next five years. The sixth Regional Meeting of Smoke-free Cities in the Asia Pacific Region “Reshaping Tourism through Smoke-free Environment” has discussed how to promote smoke-free tourist environment, enhancing cooperation network and sharing experiences in carrying out the campaign. Standing Deputy Health Minister Professor Nguyen Viet Tien said that Vietnamese Ministry of Health and the Vietnam Fund for the Prevention of Tobacco Harms have built smoke-free tourist city in Hoi An city since 2009, and expanded to some other cities like Ha Long, Hue, Hai Phong, and Nha Trang. He added that in these cities, people at restaurants, hotels, tourist sites, offices, schools and hospitals are not allowed to smoke.
