(Photo: VNSC) Hanoi (VNA) – Potential plans and roadmaps were proposed to build national capacity in Earth observation using small satellite systems during a seminar held by the Vietnam National Space Centre (VNSC) at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) in Hanoi on June 30. In his remarks, VNSC General Director Assoc. Prof., Dr. Pham Anh Tuan said the Government in February 2021 announced a strategy for the development and application of aerospace science and technology by 2030, aiming to utilise achievements in the fields to address defence and security issues, strengthen management of environment and natural resources, monitor natural disasters and minimise their impacts, and provide related services for people. Storm Chaba poses no more danger to Vietnam’s northeast as it makes landfall
It made landfall along the coast of Maoming City in China's Guangdong Province at around 3 p.m. Saturday, Chinese newspapers reported. At 4 p.m. it lay centered around 320 kilometers to the east of Quang Ninh Province, home to Ha Long Bay, with a maximum wind speed of 117 kph, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting. It will move northwest at a speed of 10-15 kph and is expected to weak into a tropical depression by Sunday morning with winds decreasing to 61 kph. Vietnam’s northeastern region should expect rains of 40-80 mm, and more than 100 mm in some places, between Saturday evening and Sunday. A day earlier weather experts had expected the region to be hit by torrential downpours of up to 150-350 mm a day. Rainfall of 180 mm a day is considered heavy. Nearly 1,000 children take free swimming lessons in south-central Vietnam
A free swimming course sponsored by a local man has benefited about 1,000 children from seven to 15 years old in Phan Rang-Thap Cham City under the south-central Vietnamese province of Ninh Thuan. Le Nguyen Le Vi, a resident of the city, is the sponsor of the swimming program, which has taken place at the swimming pool of Hoa Sen Ninh Thuan Kindergarten - Elementary School from Monday to Friday every week. Children participating in the course are taught basic skills, such as swimming on their stomach, breaststroke, breathing underwater, and saving themselves from drowning. More than 2,000 children aged under 16 years in Vietnam lose their lives every year due to drowning, the World Health Organization cited an estimate in 2020. Many participants have said the course is helpful as it enables them to swim and improve their swimming safety skills. Vietnam boxing champ to defend IBF Asia belt against Filipino opponent
The IBF Asia lightweight champion will fight Jules Victoriano on July 30. The match will take place at The Grand Ho Tram Strip Resort in the southern beach town Vung Tau. In April, at the IBF-WBO 4 Titles Match event, also hosted at The Grand Ho Tram, Quan defeated Delmar Pellio of the Philippines in the title match after 10 rounds. The victory helped Quan bring Vietnam the first title of the International Boxing Federation or IBF, one of the big four boxing federations in the world. Quan’s next opponent, Victoriano, is another talented Filipino boxer with 15 professional fights (11 wins, four losses and eight knockouts). Vietnam’s ST25 rice enters Japanese market

(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) - The General Administration of Customs (GAC) of China has just approved the pilot import of Vietnamese passion fruits from July 1, according to the Vietnam Sanitary and Phytosanitary Notification Authority and Enquiry Point (SPS Vietnam). SPS Vietnam, which is under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), said that GAC suggested Vietnam closely monitor packaging specifications and issues related to pest control, growing area code, and record keeping, to ensure quality and food safety hygiene before exporting the fruits to China . In addition, the Chinese side has introduced five pest species subject to quarantine that are not allowed to appear in passion fruits export ed to the country. Vietnam’s HDPE pellets not subject to safeguarding duties in Philippines
Hanoi (VNA) - The Philippine Tariff Commission (TC) has announced the final conclusion on a safeguard investigation on High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pellets imported from many countries, including Vietnam . According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT)'s Trade Remedies Authority, TC proposed the imposition of 2% safeguarding duties on the product within three years to prevent the adverse impacts caused by imported HDPE pellets on the domestic production. However, the authority said that the HDPE pellets imported from Vietnam is not subject to the tax rate, as Vietnam is on the list of developing countries with the import volume of under 3%. In the next two weeks, the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) will give an official decision on the issue.
