Vietnam Airlines joins SkyTeam’s Sustainable Flight Challenge programme

(Photo courtesy of Vietnam Airlines) Hanoi (VNA) – The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has participated in "The Sustainable Flight Challenge" (TSFC) programme, launched by SkyTeam Airline Alliance, with the first flight from Hanoi to the Republic of Korea’s Seoul. The programme aims to encourage ideas for aviation sustainable development , further reduce aviation’s impact on the environment and spur breakthrough ideas that can be shared across the industry. It has drawn the participation of 16 airlines from many countries including the United States, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, China and the Republic of Korea. Participating carriers will be judged across 14 categories by an international panel of judges with members who are experts from related fields. Vietnam Airlines, 15 other airlines to take part in Sustainable Flight Challenge

TSFC is a program to boost initiatives of developing the aviation industry which was launched by SkyTeam, a global airline alliance with members being the world's large airlines. The program aims to find airlines operating the most eco-friendly commercial flight along with the most sustainable development. The airlines will be assessed on 14 items by International Examiner Council, experts, leaders of the aviation sector. The winner shall be honored at a special event in this June. The Sustainable Flight Challenge has attracted participation of 16 airlines from different countries, including the United States, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, China, the Republic of Korea and so on. In the first activity, the airlines will perform flights with a long distance of over 5,000 kilometers, 1,500-to-5,000-kilometer medium distance to receive assessment on effective exploitation and environment protection on the flight routes. PM calls for American investors to boost tourism cooperation with Vietnam

"Vietnam has brought the pandemic under control and resumed tourism and aviation activities. The first group of foreign travelers returning to Vietnam after the country reopened its borders from March 15 was from the U.S.," Chinh told a conference on trade, investment and tourism promotion between Vietnam and the U.S. in San Francisco on May 17. Before the pandemic, the U.S. was among the 10 largest source markets of Vietnam's tourism. In 2019, there were over 746,000 American tourists visiting Vietnam and the average growth rate during the 2014-2019 period was 11 percent. A Vietnam Airlines spokesman told the conference the national flag carrier now operates four weekly flights between San Francisco and Ho Chi Minh City, using Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 craft and it plans to operate daily flights between both cities from next year.
