Vietnamese transport firm Futa Bus Lines JSC put 100 new minibuses into operation on Monday on three routes connecting the tourist city of Da Lat with three other districts in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong. The three bus routes operated by Futa, better known as Phuong Trang, link Da Lat with Bao Loc, Don Duong, and Xuan Truong Districts, which are home to popular destinations that often attract tourists. The minibuses were manufactured in Russia, with 16 seats and eight standing slots. They are equipped with automatic doors, a camera, a GPS-assisted cruise control system, a point of sale (POS) payment device, air conditioners, and free Wi-Fi connection. Many Vietnamese businesses and experts have appealed for the government fully open international tourism sooner than the previous recommended date of April 30, after nearly two years of closure due to COVID-19 impacts. The latest proposal was put forward at a workshop on international tourism resumption, held both physically and online by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and, Tourism in conjunction with some relevant agencies on Monday. The country should utterly reopen tourism to international visitors from February 1 or March 1 instead of April 30 or May 1 as previously suggested by many agencies and businesses, Vietnam Airlines deputy general director Trinh Hong Quang and deputy standing vice-chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association (VTA) Vu The Binh recommended. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), the request on Monday serves to reduce the number of flights at the busiest time of day as too many passengers flock to Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai international airports in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to fly home for the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday. The holiday, called Tet in Vietnam, is the biggest occasion for Vietnamese to reunite with their families. This year Tet break lasts nine days from January 29 to February 6. The Ministry of Transport had already dropped the regulation to test flight passengers, but many have not kept up with the new rule and have still arrived early at the airport for the test, resulting in streams of people waiting at airline booths, the CAAV added. As scheduled, Bamboo Airways will operate two return flights per week in the Hanoi-London route from March 22, along with two round-trip flights per week in the Ho Chi Minh City - Melbourne route from February 19. Meanwhile, there will be two flights per week on the Hanoi - Frankfurt route from February 25. The flight frequency will increase depending on the demand, according to the airline. Bamboo Airways is also taking steps to launch regular flights on the HCM City - Frankfurt route as well as others connecting Vietnam and Munich and Berlin of Germany. The opening of regular direct flights between the country and Germany is part of Bamboo Airways' wider plan aimed at strengthening its international flight network from the beginning of the year.
