Steel companies report decline in Q1 profits

Data from the Viet Nam Steel Association (VSA) showed that in the first quarter of this year, finished steel consumption reached 8.137 million tonnes, up 11.9 per cent over the same period in 2021. Of the estimate, steel exports reached about 2.275 million tonnes, with export value reaching US$2.3 billion, decreasing by 22.15 per cent in volume but up by 12.53 per cent in value over the same period last year. However, the business performance of many enterprises in the industry did not move in the same direction. To show the determination to ensure safety and complete the work on schedule, a safety oath ceremony was held. Starting in March 2020, the construction has completed 70 per cent of the workload, thereby ensuring its schedule so that the new centre can be completed by the end of this year as committed to the Viet Nam Government. In October 2020, the foundation construction was completed. In April 2021, the work completed 30 per cent of the plan and started construction of the floating structure. Situated in Ia Le Commune in Chu Puh District, the VND1 trillion (US$44.6 million) complex is the fourth project developed by Hung Nhon Group and the Netherlands' De Heus. It will be built on an area of around 100ha and include a pig farm with a capacity of 2,500 head imported from the Netherlands, an organic fertiliser factory, and an organic farming area. It will have modern technologies throughout the breeding process to control livestock quality, optimise livestock performance and reduce costs.
