Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong made the statement while evaluating the outcomes of the World Economic Forum. He said Vietnam has closely worked with WEF in various fields including the New Vision for Agriculture Initiative. Vietnam joined the initiative in 2010 by engaging the state, businesses, and farmers and implementing the public-private partnership (PPP) model. The PPP activities in agriculture have been implemented under the form of the “Partnership for Sustainable Agriculture in Vietnam” (PSAV) hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. PVCFC, AGPPS join forces to form rice value chain Trung Chanh By Trung Chanh - The Saigon Times Daily CAN THO - PetroVietnam Ca Mau Fertilizer Company Limited (PVCFC) and An Giang Plant Protection Joint Stock Company (AGPPS) on April 3 signed a strategic cooperation agreement on sustainable agricultural development as part of their joint efforts to complete a rice value chain. The chain is aimed at raising incomes for the farmers who work with AGPPS. According to the pact, the chain also includes supply of fertilizer, insecticide and latest technological applications as well as rice consumption for the farmers participating in large-scaled paddy fields developed by AGPPS. AGPPS will be a sole distributor of the products which are jointly developed by the companies and a strategic distributor of the products that PVCFC turns out in Cambodia. Vietnam, S.Korea in deal to develop agricultural value chainThe Saigon Times Daily HCMC - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Ninh Thuan Province on May 27 signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Cheiljedan Group (CJ) to develop an agricultural value chain in the south-central province. Speaking at a signing ceremony in Ninh Thuan, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said the project was a public private partnership between Vietnam and South Korea to create jobs with stable incomes for rural people. Vietnam News Agency quoted Nam as saying that the PPP model would be expanded to other localities if it was successful in Ninh Thuan. In recent years, Vietnam's agriculture has gained certain development, making important contributions to the export sector of various agricultural commodities, especially rice and catfish. However, this development remains short of fulfilling the sector’s full potential; one of the reasons is the absence of a successful value chain for agricultural products. One important measure to develop the value chain of agricultural products is to encourage trade enterprises to participate. Currently, there are still many difficulties hindering enterprises when participating in the agricultural value chain relating to activities of trade promotion, production stimulation, ensuring product quality and reasonable price for consumers. Ta Hoang Linh, deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency, said domestic firms have paid attention to design and trademark building in order to join the global value chain. He said within the framework of the project, both sides will establish the Vietnam-RoK design cooperation centre to improve design capacity and connect domestic and foreign designers together.
