Cold chain logistics are being given more attention in Vietnam as new trade channels take off. Carrier Transicold & Refrigeration Systems, a subsidiary of world-leading high-tech heating, air conditioning and refrigeration solutions provider Carrier, last month signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Vietnam Institute of Agriculture Engineering and Post-Harvest Technology under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) at the World Cold Chain Summit 2018 in Ho Chi Minh City, to cooperate in bolstering cold chain development in Vietnam. EU funds shrimp value chain development Tu Giang and Trung Chanh HANOI, CAN THO - The European Union (EU) is financing a project worth 2.5 million euros to promote shrimp production and value chain development in a number of Mekong Delta provinces. The project, which is funded under SWITCH-Asia program, aims to promote sustainable economic prosperity and poverty reduction in Vietnam. Small and medium processing enterprises, shrimp producers and inhabitants in a number of Mekong Delta provinces will benefit from the “sustainable and equitable shrimp production and value chain development” project, which was launched by Oxfam, the International Collaborating Center for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS) and partners. According to Qualcomm Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos CEO Thieu Phuong Nam, the platform for a digital economy is a strong mobile telecommunications infrastructure. 4G was introduced one year ago. However, Nam said now is the right time for the government to begin thinking about policy, technology and ecosystem for 5G. He cited a recent report as saying that by 2035, 5G will create a new impetus for economic development, worth US$12 trillion, by creating new services, jobs and values. “Digital economy means all fields will utilize technology and all devices will be connected. The development of 4G and 5G mobile telecommunication infrastructure will play the decisive role in the development of the digital economy in Vietnam,” Nam said. “4G and 5G will change a lot of industries,” he said.
