VietNamNet Bridge – Robert Gates, US defence secretary, on June 4 warned that there were “increasing concerns” about recent Chinese provocations in the East  Sea and other disputed waters in Asia. VN condemns Chinese intrusion   US Defence Secretary Robert Gates (photo: Reuters) Vietnam and the Philippines have in recent weeks accused China of engaging in aggressive behaviour in the East Sea, escalating a long-running dispute over the waters. “I fear that without rules of the road and agreed approaches to dealing with these problems that there will be clashes,” Mr Gates told the Shangri-La Dialogue, a high-profile Asian defence forum. But asked whether the Chinese actions undermined Beijing’s mantra that China was pursuing a “peaceful rise”, Mr Gates said: “I don’t think it has risen to that level yet”. Just over a week ago, Vietnam accused China of a … [Read more...] about US warns China over the East Sea

US warns China to avoid tensions in international airspace

May 30, 2014 by robert Leave a Comment

(VOVworld) – The US asked China not to escalate tensions in the international airspace after Japan accused China of conducting “dangerous actions” in disputed East Sea areas. US State of Department spokesperson Jen Psaki said Thursday that Washington doesn’t recognise the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East Sea unilaterally, which was established by China last November and urges Beijing to renounce it. Psaki reiterated that China co-operate with neighbouring countries to build mutual trust by establishing emergency hotlines. She said any attempt to impede travel in the international airspace will generate tensions in the region and called on all countries to ensure airspace security. … [Read more...] about US warns China to avoid tensions in international airspace

US warns China against escalating tensions over ADIZ

December 6, 2013 by robert Leave a Comment

(VOVworld)- US Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday warned that China is escalating tension by creating the Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) in the East China Sea. He also stressed that regional peace and stability is also Beijing’s benefit. Speaking in front of leaders of 60 US enterprises in Beijing, Biden said he considers the ADIZ covering the disputed islands of Senkaku/Diaoyu a major threat to the region. He said China’s economic growth depends on regional peace and stability. That’s why Beijing should take responsibility for maintaining peace and stability in this region. Biden said the US does not acknowledge the ADIZ. US and China accuse each other of cyber-espionage

March 4, 2016 by robert Leave a Comment

(VOVworld) – Tensions between the US and China have risen after both nations accused each other of massive cyber-espionage. A US federal jury in Pittsburg, Pensylvania, on Monday charged Chinese military officials of spying on US enterprises. An announcement from US Attorney General Eric Holder said that the 5 Chinese charged officials worked for the Chinese People‘s Liberation Army (PLA) in Unit 61398, Department 3, and have not been to the US. The US said that these military officials had hacked the computer systems of US enterprises to steal designs of nuclear factory, solar energy production cycles, and trade confidential. The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman, Qin Gang, dismissed US accusations and said that they would jeopardise mutual co-operation and trust between the two countries. Beijing urged Washington to immediately refute the indictment and has suspended US-China working group, set up to discuss cyber problems between the two countries, citing … [Read more...] about US and China accuse each other of cyber-espionage

The East Sea and US-VN-China relations after Xi Jinping’s US visit

October 8, 2015 by robert Leave a Comment

VietNamNet would like to present an article by Dr. Tran Cong Truc, former Head of the Government Boundary Committee on US - Vietnam - China relations and the East Sea (internationally known as the South China Sea), after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the US. Dr. Tran Cong Truc, former Head of the Government Boundary Committee. The East Sea is the center of relations between Vietnam and the two superpowers – the US and China. The East Sea is heating up not only due to Beijing’s escalation and expansion in pursuing and imposing its absurd and illegal U-shaped line with many dangerous tricks, but also because of the absence of actual progress after the meeting between Xi and US President Obama. Before the Sino - US summit, the region entrusted a lot of hope in the White House on the commitment to enforce international law and order, peace and stability, marine and aviation security and safety in the East Sea.  … [Read more...] about The East Sea and US-VN-China relations after Xi Jinping’s US visit
