Vientiane (VNA) – Two Vietnamese businesses in Laos presented support in both cash and kind worth 370,000 USD to representatives of the Lao Government on April 6 to help with the host country’s fight against COVID-19. Luu Manh Ha, General Director of Star Telecom (Unitel) – a joint venture of Vietnam’s telecom group Viettel in Laos and Lao Asia Telecom, noted as a leading information technology firm in Laos, the company is aware of its responsibility for deploying technological solutions to assist COVID-19 prevention and control efforts in the country. Hanoi (VNA) - Over 277,700 signatures have been collected in Hanoi in the first phase of a campaign called “Appeal of the Hibakusha (atomic bomb survivors)”, which calls for the elimination of nuclear weapons. Collected by the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO), the signatures have been handed over to the Vietnam Peace Committee (VPC), HUFO said on April 6. According to HUFO Vice President Tran Thi Phuong and Hanoi Peace Committee President Tran Thi Ngoc Thanh, the signatures were collected from people at government offices and residential zones as well as at bus stations and public spaces around Hanoi. They expect to gain more signatures from students in the capital during subsequent phases, when local schools and universities re-open after the COVID-19 pandemic ends. Hanoi (VNA) – The US on April 6 said it was "seriously concerned" about China's reported sinking of a Vietnamese fishing vessel in the East Sea. In its statement, the US Department of State said this incident is the latest in a long string of China’s actions in the East Sea amid the coronavirus pandemic. It urged China to instead focus on supporting international efforts to fight the global pandemic. Regarding this incident, a representative of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs had a meeting with a representative of the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi and presented a protest diplomatic note asking the Chinese side to investigate, clarify and strictly handle the civil servants and the Chinese coast guard vessel causing the incident, not to repeat similar actions, and at the same time adequately compensate for the losses of Vietnamese fishermen. Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Health confirmed four more people positive for SARS-CoV-2 on late April 6, adding up to 245 cases of COVID-19 in Vietnam so far. Among the new cases who are all Vietnamese, one is linked with the Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital while the three others returned from other countries and have been quarantined upon their arrival. Case 242 is a 47-year-old man living in Me Linh commune of Hanoi’s Me Linh district. He accompanied his wife to Bach Mai Hospital for check-up on March 12. Case 243, a 34-year-old woman, lived and worked in Russia. On March 25, she returned to Vietnam on Flight SU290 and entered the country via Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi. Case 244, a 44-year-old woman, is an employee of a fast food restaurant in Germany. Da Nang (VNA) – The fight against COVID-19 is gaining more strength as more support from the public was contributed to the efforts in the central city of Da Nang and Hanoi capital on April 6. On March 6, the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Da Nang received more than 1 billion VND (over 42,600 USD) donated by the FPT Joint Stock Company, the municipal People’s Procuracy and the A Viet Inspection JSC.
