United Nations to support VN science-based research (02-08-2008) HA NOI — A project to enhance Vietnamese scientific researchers’ ability to support effective policy-making was inaugurated in Ha Noi yesterday. The US$3.5 million initiative, announced by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Viet Nam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) with support from the Spanish Government, will help VASS in three key areas: research management, human development research and policy advocacy. The three-year project will also provide researchers with opportunities to apply practical skills in the preparation of a National Human Development Report for Viet Nam in 2010, according to UNDP Viet Nam acting country director Christophe Bahuet. VN set to ratify United Nations Convention Against Corruption
VN set to ratify United Nations Convention Against Corruption (04-06-2009) Ha Noi — Deputy Chief of the Government Inspectorate Mai Quoc Binh has said his agency is finalising details for the nation’s ratification of the UN Convention Against Corruption. Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Binh said his agency had worked closely with the National Anti-Corruption Steering Committee, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and the Ministry of Construction to prepare for the first anti-corruption dialogue scheduled to take place with donors sometime this year. He said the theme of the dialogue would be "anti-corruption in the construction sector". As of May 26, Binh said, 38 ministries, sectors and central agencies, and 28 localities had completed the first inventory of their 2007 assets; 24 ministries, sectors, central agencies and localities had completed their assets inventory for 2008. In an interview with Viet Nam News Agency prior to his visit to Ha Noi for the UN-ASEAN summit on October 28-30, the UN chief said Viet Nam had been a very responsible member and strengthened the partnership between Viet Nam and the UN since it joined the organisation in 1977.
