David Dao, the doctor who was seen being dragged off a United Airlines jet this month in videos that sparked widespread outrage, has reached a settlement with the airline for an undisclosed amount, his lawyers said on Thursday. The April 9 episode had stoked the fears and frustrations of airplane passengers everywhere and became a public relations nightmare for United. On Thursday, both sides welcomed what they hoped would be the end of the ordeal. “Mr. Munoz said he was going to do the right thing, and he has,” Thomas A. Asian communities boycott United Airlines
Vietnam is standing behind David Dao, the man who was violently dragged off a United Airlines flight Sunday due to an "overbooking" mistake by the airlines. Dao is Vietnamese by birth, which caused immediate uproar in his community. Protesters boycotted via social media, despite there being no direct United Airlines flights to Vietnam, Reuters reported Wednesday. Growth doubles for United Airlines (12-12-2005) HCM CITY — United Airlines gained double digit growth in passenger traffic to Viet Nam since the carrier’s first departure for the country in December of last year, says a senior official from the airline. During celebrations for the carrier’s first year anniversary of service to Viet Nam over the weekend, Joe Mannix, United’s general manager in the country said United’s growth in passenger traffic in 2005, on routes to and from Viet Nam ranged from 10 to 22 per cent. He said more than 300,000 passengers came to Viet Nam from the US in 2005, a year-on-year increase of 22.4 per cent. "We are proud to have contributed significantly to that figure," said Mannix. "With double digit growth, it is clear that United is best positioned to serve business and leisure travellers from Viet Nam." Speaking at a press meeting during his visit to HCM City on Oct. 8, Uniteds vice president Pacific, Mark Schwab, said: We are delighted that in less than three years of operating in Vietnam, we are significantly expanding our route network and offering travellers from Vietnam a second gateway to California. The carrier will fly Boeing B747-400 aircraft on the new route. The new service will also significantly increase cargo capacity into Los Angeles, the largest cargo gateway on the US west coast. United Airlines celebrates a decade in Ho Chi Minh City
United Airlines, the only US airline serving Vietnam, last week celebrated its 10th anniversary of service to Ho Chi Minh City. Jake Cefolia, United’s vice president of Atlantic and Pacific Sales, joined the airline’s local sales team to host a reception at Park Hyatt Saigon attended by over 150 business partners. “All of us at United, and particularly our team members in Vietnam, are very excited to celebrate this significant milestone with our business partners today,” said Cefolia. “It is an honor to have spent a decade connecting these two great countries. Over the past 10 years, we have carried more than 750,000 passengers from Vietnam to the US, and to the numerous other destinations we serve,” he added. "These are the two professional suppliers of Internet services on the plane. They have connecting devices from the ground to the aircraft, from the planes to the passengers. Therefore, they will be the key units to provide this service," said a representative of Vietnam Airlines. To serve passengers on flights of Vietnam Airlines, these suppliers must have permits from authorities of Vietnam, said the representative. Several international airlines are flocking to Vietnam amid the International Air Transport Association estimate that the country would become the world’s third fastest growing market by 2014. A plane of the Garuda Indonesia airlines at Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City Emirates from the Gulf will launch a Dubai – Ho Chi Minh City daily service on June 4, making the southern Vietnamese economic hub its 124th international destination. The non-stop flight, with 27 Business Class and 251 Economy Class seats, will depart Dubai at 9:25 am, arriving at Tan Son Nhat Airport at 7:20 pm.
