My love affair with pho began way back in 1980, after moving from a small town in British Columbia, Canada to attend an art college in Vancouver. And like many students living in cramped rooming houses with only a hot plate to cook, I was always searching for eateries that served fast, inexpensive food. That’s when I discovered My Tan on Broadway Avenue, which was among the first Vietnamese restaurants in Vancouver. The restaurant was operated by a family from Vietnam, who came to live in Canada. I had my first bowl of pho at this little restaurant, which quickly became one of my go-to eating places during my college years. Students at the opening ceremony of the new school year at Khmer-Vietnam Tan Tien friendship primary school in Phnom Penh on November 5 Phnom Penh (VNA) – Children of Vietnamese Cambodians studying at the Khmer-Vietnam Tan Tien friendship primary school in Phnom Penh began their 2018-2019 school year on November 5. Built by the Vietnam-Khmer Association, the Khmer-Vietnam Tan Tien friendship primary school is the largest Khmer-Vietnamese bilingual school in Cambodia. It provides kindergarten-to-fifth grade education that can enable its students to study in public schools in Cambodia and Vietnam. US experts: China should refrain from actions further militarising East Sea

(Photo: AFP) Washington D.C (VNA) – China and other concerned nations should refrain from actions that further militarise the East Sea and parties need to sit down for negotiation via diplomatic channels to resolve the issue, according to an US expert. China’s growing militarisation of the East Sea makes the situation more complicated and probably causes misunderstanding in an area that has already suffered from many conflicts and complexity, Lindsey Ford, Director for Political-Security Affairs at the US’s Asia Society Policy Institute told Vietnam News Agency during a recent briefing by the University of Pennsylvania’s global research centre Perry World House. PM meets Vietnamese Cambodians in Cambodia
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc meets overseas Vietnamese (Source: VNA) Siem Reap (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met Cambodians of Vietnamese descent living in the Cambodian province of Siem Reap on April 5 during his trip to attend the third Mekong River Commission Summit. The PM expressed his best wishes to them on the occasion of the traditional New Year of Cambodia and lauded them for linking the two countries together. He updated them on the development of ties between the two countries, saying that during working sessions, Vietnam asked the Cambodian government to offer all possible support to Vietnamese Cambodians, especially in legal procedures, education and life improvement. General Staff meets with former soldiers
At the meeting General Le Van Dung, former member of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee, former Director of the General Department for Politics of Vietnam People’s Army (VPA); Senior Lieutenant-General Pham Ngoc Minh, Deputy Chief of the General Staff; and former officers of the General Staff attended the event. Speaking at the event, General Giang expressed his deep gratitude to former officers of the unit as well as national contributors. He emphasized that the whole unit strictly observed the Party's guidelines and State's policies and provided recommendations for the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense.
