U.S., Japan, Australia, and India will unveil a maritime initiative at the Quad summit in Tokyo to curb illegal fishing in the Indo-Pacific, the Financial Times reported on Saturday, citing a U.S. official. The report said that the maritime initiative will use satellite technology to create a tracking system for illegal fishing from the Indian Ocean to the South Pacific by connecting surveillance centers in Singapore and India. U.S. President Joe Biden is visiting Japan to attend the meeting of the Quad group of countries - Australia, India, Japan and the United States in Tokyo- which have increased cooperation in the face of China's growing assertiveness. Vietnamese athletes amassed 29 more gold medals on Sunday, bringing their 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games gold tally to 66, helping the hosts stay atop the medal table by the end of the competition day. The Vietnamese swimming team beat 2016 Olympic champion Joseph Schooling of Singapore and his teammates to win a gold medal in the men’s freestyle 4x200m relay event at the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games on Tuesday. The team, including Nguyen Huu Kim Son, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Hoang Quy Phuoc, and Tran Hung Nguyen, competed against their rivals from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia in the event.
