A new wave of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) has been gathering pace in Vietnam since last year, and promises to rise to US$20 billion a year by 2018, news website Bao Dau tu quoted a group of researchers as saying Thursday. The wave was sparked by recent changes in business and investment policies and laws, according to the group affiliated to the Vietnam M&A Forum, an annual event that will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on August 6. No description of the "imperial cuisine" is complete without some mention of Emperor Tự Đức who famously demanded that every meal consist of 50 dishes prepared by 50 cooks. They sell bánh nậm, bánh ít and bánh lọc - all snacks made of pork and shrimp wrapped up and … [Read more...] about Hue’s rightful royals Give it a try!
VietNamNet Bridge – Houses built three centuries ago in Da Nang still provide shelter for their creators' descendants, but renovation is costly and their numbers are dwindling as city development closes in. Hoai Nam reports. A 300-year-old house has sheltered Ong Thi Man and four generations of her family in Phong Nam Village, 20km from Da Nang City centre. The village in the suburban Hoa Chau Commune is one of the last places that continue to preserve a rural life. Man, 90, who was born and brought up in the village, inherited the house from her grandfather. The ancient house, built as a ruong house (a popular design that can be seen in Hue and the central region with ironwood columns, girders and clay-baked roof tiles), is seen as one of the oldest houses in the village. "I have been living in the house since my birth. The house witnessed the prosperous life of our family during my grandfather's time, and now my son's," Man said. "I have tried to preserve the house for years, … [Read more...] about Ancient houses battle urbanisation wave
