More than a dozen people hurt in Texas tornadoes

More than a dozen people were wounded when multiple tornadoes slammed the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the U.S. state of Texas on Tuesday, local media reported. At least two twisters touched down near Dallas and Fort Worth Tuesday afternoon, crushing homes and sending thousands of North Texans scrambling to take cover, according to the reports. Widespread damage was reported, as tornadoes and violent storms overturned trucks, damaged buildings and cut off power to thousands of homes and businesses in the the Dallas and Fort Worth area, the country's fourth-most-populous metropolitan area with over 6 million people. In suburban Dallas, 10 people were reportedly injured, two of them in critical conditions. In Arlington city, three people were injured. About a dozen of tornadoes battered the U.S. state of Texas on Tuesday, wounding more than 10 people and causing widespread damage estimated to many millions of U.S. dollars. More than a dozen people hurt in Texas tornadoes The U.S. National Weather Service reported at least a dozen tornadoes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the country's fourth-most-populous metropolitan area with over 6 million people, according to the newspaper Dallas Morning News. At least two twisters touched down near Dallas and Fort Worth Tuesday afternoon, crushing homes and sending thousands of local residents scrambling to take cover. Tornadoes kill 5, injure dozens in U.S. state of Oklahoma

At least five people were killed and 29 others injured in Oklahoma as tornadoes raked the U.S. midwest states on Saturday and Sunday, officials said. As the violent weather swept the region, tornadoes or high winds damaged a hospital, homes and cut off power for hundreds of thousands of households, and forecasters warned of more storms on Sunday. The U.S. National Weather Service received 121 reports of possible tornado touchdowns Saturday and early Sunday in Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa, according to CNN. As the violent storm system could continue to hammer much of the region, CNN quoted a weather expert as reporting that the states in the "bull's-eye" for the most dangerous conditions Sunday will likely be Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa. Mexico and Texas hit by deadly storms

At least 13 people have been killed by a tornado that hit the northern Mexico border city of Ciudad Acuna. Hundreds of homes have been damaged or destroyed in the city, in Coahuila state, just across the border from Del Rio, Texas. The US state has had big floods, with at least three dead and 12 missing. Images from Mexico showed cars and buildings badly damaged. Many people have been injured and there are fears the death toll could rise. Coahuila Governor Ruben Moreira, on a visit to the stricken area, said 10 adults and three children had died and a baby was missing. Another 150 people had been taken to hospital, he said. The authorities say that more than 1,000 homes have been damaged by the storm. At one point the tornado reached a speed of 270-300km/h (168-186mph). Christmastime storms, tornadoes kill at least 41 in U.S

Storms hit southern and central U.S. states over the Christmas holiday, unleashing floods and tornadoes that killed at least 41 people, flattened buildings and snarled transportation for millions during a busy travel time. At least 11 people were killed in the Dallas area over the weekend by tornadoes, including one packing winds of up to 200 miles per hour (322 km per hour). The twister hit the city of Garland, killing eight people and blowing vehicles off highways. "A tornado of that strength is very rare in a metropolitan area," National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Bishop said in a telephone interview.
