Developers expect smoother LNG policy planning
The input price of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) fluctuates between 15-20 cents/kW while the saleable electricity price is currently 6-7 cents/kW only. This will be an obstacle in the future because Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) will have to buy high and sell low. Despite the mandatory use of the standard form wholesale market power purchase agreement (PPA), complete with untenable fuel cost pass-through clauses being imposed on would-be LNG project sponsors, the market will never accept the proposition. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh questioned why the latest draft of the Power Development Plan VIII (PDP8) seeks to effectively block any new solar power projects until 2030, since “solar power costs are getting cheaper and cheaper, and energy storage battery technology is becoming more advanced at more acceptable pricing”. The LNG gas power project is scheduled to start construction in the second quarter of 2022 According to calculations by the Ministry of … [Read more...] about Developers expect smoother LNG policy planning
Taking waste treatment very seriously
Tightly controlling waste sources Company director Le Van Xuan said the company discharges three types of waste: solid, industrial and hazardous waste. Solid waste comprises waste paper, used office utensils, canteen waste, domestic waste and non-hazardous industrial waste. The company has signed a contract with the People’s Committee of Na Duong Town for waste collection, classification, transportation and treatment. Normal industrial solid waste (ashes and cinders) is transported by specialized vehicles to the 9.6ha Na Duoi dumping ground, about 2.5-3km away from residential areas and the company’s factory. In 2019, the Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology (IBST) certified that the company’s ashes and cinders were eligible for use as ground filling materials. On February 10, 2022, the institute granted another standard conformity certificate allowing the company to use its ashes and cinders as mineral additive for cement production. Hazardous waste is sorted … [Read more...] about Taking waste treatment very seriously

The conference themed “Strategies & Partnerships to accelerate Vietnam’s energy transition” was jointly organized by Cong Thuong Newspaper and GE Vietnam, one of the first American companies opening representative office in Hanoi in 1993, even before the US embargo was lifted. “The US initiated the energy switch more than a decade ago and has reported a drop in the use of coal by half, a jump of natural gas to 38% in the country’s energy mix, and clean energy solutions as favored by the government," Sean M. Laos to sell electricity to Singapore soon
Vientiane (VNA) – Laos will soon sell electricity to Singapore under the Laos - Thailand - Malaysia - Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP), Vientiane Times reported. The power purchase agreement was signed by the Lao state-owned Electricite du Laos (EDL) and Singapore’s Keppel Infrastructure Holdings last week. Accordingly, Laos will export 30 MW of electricity in the dry season and 100 MW in the rainy season to Singapore in 2022 and 2023.
