(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The national mountain cycling crew of Malaysia made history on May 17 by bagging the country’s first gold medal in the mixed cross-country relay event at the ongoing SEA Games 31 . The event took place in Vietnam’s Hoa Binh northern mountainous province. In the final, the squad comprising Ahmad Syazrin Awang Ilah, Zulfikri Zulkifli, Nur Assyira Zainal Abidin and Natahsya Soon clocked 1:23:14 to emerge victorious. The best achievement of the Malaysia n team was winning the silver medal in the Games in 2011. Timor Leste win 2nd medal, VN bag gold in 10,000m

The two silvers that Deus won are also the only medals of the Timor Leste delegation so far. GE gets first 9HA combined cycle power plant equipment order in VN
PetroVietnam Power Corporation’s Nhon Trach 3 & 4 power plant will use two GE 9HA.02 gas turbines. — Photo courtesy of the company GE has secured an order for generation equipment for PetroVietnam Power Corporation’s Nhon Trach 3 & 4 power plant in Dong Nai Province. It will supply two blocks of more than 800 MW each including a GE 9HA.02 gas turbine, the company’s most efficient 50 Hz gas turbine, an STF-D650 steam turbine, a W88 generator, and others. It marks the US firm’s first H-Class gas turbine order in Viet Nam. Once in commercial operation in 2025, the plant, the first to be fuelled by liquefied natural gas in the country, is expected to deliver over 1.6 GW of electricity. The highly efficient natural gas means the power plant will have a lower environmental impact than thermal plants. SEA Games 31: Malaysia concerned about medal standings

The national contingent has been in the top five spots in the biennial Games, except for the 1983 edition in Singapore, where Malaysia placed sixth. With today’s meagre haul of three gold medals in pencak silat, gymnastics and athletics, Malaysia currently has 19 golds, 24 silvers and 44 bronzes, and is sixth, having dropped a spot from fifth at the start of the day. As of May 16, Vietnam obtained 197 medals, including 88 golds, topping the tally and leaving other competitors far behind.
