The first training session for Egyptian Chinese language teachers to improve their teaching ability started on Sunday in Cairo. The session, under the supervision of the Chinese Confucius institute, will concentrate on the exchange of experiences in teaching the Chinese language in Egypt and the enhancement of Egyptian teachers' ability to make better use of the textbooks. The three-day training session will contain language and cultural courses by professors and instructors from famous Chinese universities such as Beijing University and Beijing Foreign Studies University, said Li Shengjun, head of the Confucius Institute at Cairo University. The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organisation’s (SEAMEO) Regional Training Centre (RETRAC) has used Tech4Teach, an online site, in 40 training courses for 1,200 foreign-language teachers in 11 southern provinces in the last two years. At the 20th anniversary of the SEAMEO regional training centre in HCM City, Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha praised the centre’s achievements in offering innovative training incorporating face-to-face and online study and instruction. Created in 2014, Tech4Teach is one of eight key teacher training components in the Ministry of Education and Training’s programme called Teaching and Learning Foreign Languages in the National Education System, which is being implemented between 2008 and 2020.
