The week-long event, which started on Sunday, is hosted by the Vietnam Trade Office under the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK, in collaboration with the Vietnam Business Association in the UK (VBUK), and Longdan and EUTEK groups. Hungary was the first European Union state to approve the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). Vietnam and Hungary are expected to sign an agreement on cooperation between the two parliaments in replacement of the one inked in 2008. Hungary has announced it will grant 50 full scholarships to Vietnamese students in the 2014-2015 academic year. The scholarships include 40 for tertiary education and MA degrees and 10 for doctorate degrees, said the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). According to the MoET, 30 scholarships will be offered to students in agriculture, natural science, water resource management, technology, civil engineering, and tourism. Three others will be for arts and culture, two for sports and physical training, and five for pharmacy and health care. Ten doctorate scholarships will be allocated based on applicants’ capacity. If the applicants are not State employees, they are required to have an average university score of 7.5 or have won a young Vietnamese scientific talent award. Exports from Vietnam to Hungary increased eight-fold to 1 billion USD in 2020 from 124.2 million USD in 2016. The figure stood at 842.7 million USD in the first 10 months of 2021, up 5% year on year, according to data from the European country. Though shipments of agricultural and food products remain modest, the revenue posted a strong increase in the recent past as seen in some key exports. Vietnam exported almost 4.4 million USD worth of processed coffee to Hungary in 2020, surging 38-fold from four years earlier, and 7.13 million USD during January - October of 2021, up 85.6% year on year. Cashew exports reduced both in volume and value in the first five months of the year. — Photo congthuong.vn HCM CITY — Việt Nam’s cashew exports reduced significantly in both volume and value in the first months of the year, exports for the entire year are forecast to be lower than last year, according to the Việt Nam Cashew Association (Vinacas). Speaking at a meeting to review the industry’s performance in the first half of the year and set plans for the latter half, Trần Văn Hiệp, Vinacas’ deputy chairman, said cashew exports in the first five months fell by 7.81 per cent in volume and 6.81 per cent in value to 206,111 tonnes and US$1.19 billion, respectively. The average export price was about $5,792 per tonne, up 1.45 per cent over the same period in 2021. Defendants at the appellate trial on Monday morning in Hà Nội. — VNA/VNS Photo Phạm Kiên HÀ NỘI — The People’s Court of Hà Nội on Monday morning started an appellate trial for 19 defendants and related parties involved in violations at the Đà Nẵng-Quảng Ngãi Expressway project. The trial panel is chaired by Judge Mai Anh Tài. The appellate trial is set to take place between Monday and Thursday. More than 25 lawyers are representing the defendants. The trial is to hear the appeal of the 19 defendants, the appeal of the civil plaintiff and that of parties with related interests and obligations. At the end of 2021, the People's Court of Hà Nội sentenced 36 defendants to be between two years suspended sentence to eight years and six months in prison for violating regulations on construction investment, causing serious consequences.
