At the meeting, General Phan Van Giang affirmed that Vietnam and Russia are enjoying a long-standing traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership. He said that Vietnam always treasures and bears in mind the great and effective support of the Soviet Union in the past and Russia at present for its national liberation and construction cause. The Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister emphasized that over the past time, the cooperation between Vietnam and the U.K. has been actively promoted by leaders of the two countries. He said that the visits of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in November, 2021 and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in June, 2022 to the U.K. were of great significance, contributing to consolidating the strategic partnership between the two countries and strengthening cooperation and mutual support in various fields, in which defense cooperation is an important component. Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Nghia, who is head of the organizing panel of the Emergency Area event of the Army Games 2022 in Vietnam, chaired the opening ceremony. Delivering a report on the explanation, acquisition and revision of the draft law, Chairman of the N.A.’s Committee for Economic Affairs Vu Hong Thanh said that many have suggested adding midstream and downstream oil and gas exploration and exploitation activities to the scope of the amendment of the draft law. Thanh said that upstream oil and gas exploration and exploitation activities are closely linked with the fields of defense, security and foreign affairs.
