Experts want to reduce number of export inspections Experts have suggested changing the number of and the time spent for inspections of export activities, including customs clearance, to help reduce costs for enterprises. Speaking at a seminar held in Ho Chi Minh on December 20, Tran Ngoc Liem, deputy director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) HCM City, said that overlapping inspection procedures were causing problems for enterprises. The General Department of Vietnam Customs said that procedures accounted for up to 50 percent of customs clearance time. Many shipments have been inspected, but still have not been cleared, it said. Even after three months, State agencies are still conducting inspection checks. A Swedish CEO has expressed interest in MobiFone as the dominant state telecom firm prepares to begin offering shares to private investors, according to government sources. Thoi Bao Kinh Te Saigon Online cited sources from the Ministry of Information and Communication as confirming that the prepaid mobile phone company Comvik intended to buy into the firm. Comvik cooperated with Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT) to develop the country’s first mobile network MobiFone between 1990 and 2005 M. A. Zaman, President and CEO of Comvik International Vietnam AB, reportedly met with Vice Minister Le Nam Thang to express his plan to invest in Vietnam -- specifically in MobiFone. The five-year agreement is to compliment the Party’s IT plan to accelerate its e-government initiative, said the commission, which acts as advisory body. Intel is to assist the commission in setting up a computer lab for testing and developing Open Source Solutions (OpenLab) based on Intel computers.
