VietNamNet Bridge – Young Vietnamese filmmakers have been invited to participate in a short ecological film competition. The Vietdocs – Viet Nam Green Documentary Film Award competition was launched by the Goethe Institute Viet Nam in an aim to encourage and support the upcoming generation of filmmakers to produce documentaries that reflect outstanding issues, said Almuth Meyer-Sollitsch, head of the institute. The competition's theme Climate Change – Changing my Life invites young filmmakers and students aged 18-30 to submit a written proposal on one A4 page for a short film on the subject of climate change and its consequences and local impacts. Over 40 countries to attend 4th Hanoi International Film Festival
The Hanoitimes - Hanoi city proposes to honour the best film on an urban topic at the upcoming fourth Hanoi International Film Festival, Director of the Hanoi Culture and Information Department To Van Dong said at a press conference in Hanoi on September 15. The fourth Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) will take place from November 1 to 5. The 4th HANIFF will feature about 550 films from over 40 countries and territories across the world. Good films do not require subservience to technology
Resident film critic says Vietnamese filmmakers' excessive reliance on technology will undermine creativity and originality A note to readers: Since I am going to critique our filmmakers' over-dependence on technology, photography and the camera, I won't use stills from movie scenes to illustrate my words. My point is that Vietnamese filmmakers should make things as simple as possible in an effort to be creative, relevant and truly free of any institutional constraint. For my part, I'll try to keep things simple by letting my words do the talking. In my previous column, I had said that Vietnamese audiences should adopt a new, critical attitude toward cinema. When we watch a "good" movie, we should view it from a distance to find some bigger, more interesting underlying cultural phenomenon.
