A short film made by a group of Saigon youths has been praised for its depiction of the lives and dreams of modern young people in the city. A short film made by a group of Saigon youths has been praised for its depiction of the lives and dreams of modern young people in the city. Titled “The Day Dreamers,” the 3-minute-26-second clip features a group of young, somewhat, wild, and fashionable people hanging out together while biking, skating, and dreaming of “crazy” things. The dialogue-free video, made by BlueR Production, has been shared over social networks since it was posted on Vimeo and Youtube in late July. According to Nguyen Hoang Phuong, head of BlueR, the clip was made over six weeks in the hope of reflecting a young person’s perspective on Saigon and its changes. The Goethe Institutes in Southeast Asia have launched a short film competition on ecological themes, entitled SEADocs, among young people who are, or hope to become, documentary filmmakers after the successful completion of the Vietdocs competition. Themed “Tree of Life: Seeds of Change”, the competition is for students aged 18-28 in Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Competitors will submit a a portfolio of their work and a motivational essay by September 2nd, 2011. According to the Goethe Institute in Hanoi, a jury of film, television and forestry experts in each country will make a selection of three students based on the submitted. The national short-listed students will then receive expert guidance during the 8-week production period of their competition film.
