Ambassador of Luxembourg to Việt Nam, Jean-Paul Senninger, writes for Việt Nam News on Luxembourg’s National Day (June 23) In 2023, Việt Nam and Luxembourg will celebrate their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Since then, the world has changed significantly, and so have our countries. Since the outset, our countries have nurtured excellent bilateral relations, which encompassed significant support to Việt Nam’s rural, health and tourism sectors. These building blocks supported Việt Nam’s successful SDG agenda and paved the way, in recent years, to close cooperation in the banking and finance sectors, as well as academia and research. Beyond these sectors, we see tremendous opportunities in digital innovation, start-ups, green energy, circular economy, health tech, automotive and logistics. Israel uncovers rare early mosque in Negev
Israeli archaeologists on Wednesday unveiled a rare ancient mosque in the country's south that the antiquities officials said sheds light on the region's transition from Christianity to Islam. The remains of the mosque, believed to be more than 1,200 years old, were discovered during works to build a new neighbourhood in the Bedouin city of Rahat, the Israel Antiquities Authority said in a statement. The mosque located in the Negev desert contains "a square room and a wall facing the direction of Mecca", with a half-circle niche in that wall pointing to the south, the IAA said. "These unique architectural features show that the building was used as a mosque," the authority said, noting it probably hosted a few dozen worshippers at a time. A short distance from the mosque, a "luxurious estate building" was also discovered, with remains of tableware and glass artefacts pointing to the wealth of its residents, the IAA said. Three years ago, the authority unearthed another mosque … [Read more...] about Israel uncovers rare early mosque in Negev

FIFA increases squad limit to 26 for World Cup
FIFA said the change was due to the unusual timing of the tournament as well as the impact of Covid-19 on squads. The showpiece event in Qatar will run from Nov. 21-Dec. 18. "The number of players to be included on the final list has been increased to at least 23 and a maximum of 26," it said in a statement. "No more than 26 people (up to 15 substitutes and 11 team officials) will be allowed to sit on the team bench." UEFA took a similar decision last year, allowing sides to pick three extra players for the European Championship due to the pandemic. The International Football Association Board this month gave the green light to the use of five substitutions in matches, which was initially introduced as a tweak to the rules because of Covid-19. … [Read more...] about FIFA increases squad limit to 26 for World Cup
