Gen Z, which will reach one billion by 2030, is the first generation of digital natives. They expect a seamless connection between the physical and the digital, which is also what allows hybrid working to flourish. A report by Cushman & Wakefield titled “Asia Pacific Office of the Future Revisited” revealed that the majority of office workers in Asia Pacific, including Viet Nam, want to be more flexible in the way they work. Hybrid working is not a new concept, but it was relatively foreign to the masses before the COVID-19 virus hit. A hybrid office is … [Read more...] about Hybrid working grows in popularity in Asia

India nixes privacy bill that alarmed big tech companies, works on new law
NEW DELHI -- India's government on Wednesday withdrew a data protection and privacy bill which was first proposed in 2019 and had alarmed big technology companies such as Facebook and Google, announcing it was working on a new comprehensive law. The 2019 law had proposed stringent regulations on cross-border data flows and proposed giving the Indian government powers to seek user data from companies, seen as part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stricter regulation of tech giants. A government notice said the decision came as a parliamentary panel's review of the 2019 bill suggested many amendments, leading to the need for a new "comprehensive legal framework". The government will now "present a new bill", the notice added. IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told Reuters the government has started drafting the new bill, "which is in good advanced stages", with a public release "very close". The government aims to get the new bill approved and made into law by early 2023 in the … [Read more...] about India nixes privacy bill that alarmed big tech companies, works on new law
‘Time against us’ in bid to rescue 10 Mexican miners after 3 days underground
Large pumps sucked water from a flooded coal mine in Mexico on Saturday as authorities weighed whether to send divers to try to save 10 miners who have been trapped underground for more than three days. The miners became trapped at a mine in the northern border state of Coahuila on Wednesday afternoon when their excavation work caused a tunnel wall to collapse, triggering flooding in three wells. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said Saturday would be "decisive" in determining whether divers could safely enter the mine. But by afternoon, Coahuila Governor Miguel Riquelme said water levels were still too high. "Time is against us," he told families at the site, Mexican media reported. Hospitals are not dojos for doctors to practice self-defense
In 2002 a patient was admitted to our hospital with a severe stomachache and died despite our best efforts. The patient's family burst in brandishing knives and threatened to slash anyone wearing a white coat. Doctors and nurses had to take off their coats and make a run for it. Many years ago one of my colleagues received threats and gangsters waited outside the emergency ward for days. The colleague was forced to go in and out of the hospital through a landfill and the backdoor. One of the latest incidents happened late last month at the Gia Dinh People's Hospital in HCMC. A child choked on a fish bone and was brought to the hospital. All of her vital signs were normal and there were no signs of distress. The child was told to sit and wait until a specialist from the otorhinolaryngology department came and removed the bone. But five minutes later a doctor in the emergency ward was checking the CT scan of another patient when the girl's father came in, pushed him against the … [Read more...] about Hospitals are not dojos for doctors to practice self-defense
