Diary of SEA Games- 11th Day: Vietnam kept 3rd position with 96 golds
(Cinet) – On November 21, Vietnam sports competed and increased a total gold of 96 and ranking in the 3rd position. Aerobics: Vietnamese athletes Nguyen Tien Phuong, Vu Ba Dong and Tran Thi Thu Ha collected a total of 20,792 points to win the mixed-trios aerobic event. It is the second gold for Vietnam Aerobic after the first gold in couple category on November 20. Wushu: Tan Thi Ly beat Mariane Mariano from the Philippines in the same event for women in the under 56kg category and her teammate, world champion Nguyen Thi Bich, thrashed Hla Hla Win from Myanmar in the women’s under 48kg event to bag the second and third gold medals for the Vietnamese wushu team. Phan Van Hau in the men’s Sanshou under 60 kg event won the third gold as he easily defeated his Philippine rival in the final match. Vietnamese gymnasts become SEA Games kings and queens
It has been 14 years since their first gold medal at the SEA Games, but now Viet Nam have become No 1 in regional gymnastics. Phan Thi Ha Thanh, 20, helped herself to three gold medals in two days, having grabbed her first in the women's all-round event after a great performance that impressed the judges. The Hai Phong City-born girl, who surprised the world with a bronze medal at the World Gymnastics Championships last month, had no difficulty repeating her performance in the vault event before taking the floor title too. Meanwhile veteran Do Thi Ngan Thuong made a great comeback with two golds in the uneven bars and the beam. Thuong surprised athletes and coaches by returning to competition following a two year doping ban five months ago. Thuong had expected to do well on the uneven bars, but the experienced gymnast outdid the competition for her second title on the beam. Vietnam has achieved its target of finishing third at the 2017 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which concluded in Malaysia on Wednesday, with female athletes outplaying their male teammates.Team Vietnam bagged a total of 58 gold medals in the event, two thirds of which were won by women.The Vietnamese female athletes have shined in multiple sports, from the important Olympic sports such as swimming and track-and-field, to martial arts including wushu, taekwondo, karate-do and pencak silat.Some of the greatest Vietnamese heroines in the region’s biggest sporting competition were swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, sprinter Le Tu Chinh, and the women’s football team, who clinched their fifth SEA Games title in Malaysia.Below are some photos of the Vietnamese ‘wonder women’ taken by Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper. State President praises athletes for achievements at 28th SEA Games Most Recent News
NDO/ VNA - The Vietnamese delegation’s achievements at the recent 28 th SEA Games have encouraged the sport spirit nationwide and enhanced Vietnam’s image, State President Truong Tan Sang stated while receiving coaches and athletes on June 23. He went on to say that the Government and Party will create additional favourable conditions to stimulate the development of sports and called on coaches and athletes to continue with efforts to improve the country’s position in regional and global sport in the next five years. Vietnam sent 392 sportsmen and women to the 28 th SEA Games which took place from June 5-16 in Singapore. The country came out third on the medal tally with 186 medals, including 73 gold.
