Northern Vietnam hit by massive power outages

Around 1 p.m., power went out in Hanoi’s inner districts like Ba Dinh, Cau Giay, Nam Tu Liem, Hai Ba Trung, and Hoang Mai. Nghia, manager of an office building in the Cau Giay District, stated that the power was restored after about 30 minutes. However the voltage spiked to more than 240 kilovolts (kV), causing some electrical equipment to be damaged. The damage is being assessed by building management. An employee of a media company in Hai Ba Trung District reported that while eating lunch at the office, power suddenly went out then came back on and then went out again. The loss of power recurred 10-15 minutes, causing many company equipment to be "turned on and off multiple times." Hanoi University of Science and Technology, located in Hai Ba Trung District, had to announce that "the entire school lost power due to a power grid failure in the city. The Hanoi Opera House has been selected as a destination for culture and tourism. According to the Ministry’s plan, a 30-minute program and an hour-long program would be performed by actors and actresses at theaters such as Vietnamese Cheo, Vietnamese Tuong, Vietnamese Dance and Music. The Ministry expected that a combination of musical performance and a cultural tourism product with Vietnamese identity will attract more holiday-makers to the country. Moreover, artists can earn extra income and the tourism industry also has more experience products for visitors. Vietnam repors 685 more Covid-19 infections on Monday

An additional 685 new Covid-19 infections were confirmed on Monday, raising the national tally to over 10.74 million, according to the Ministry of Health. Illustrative photo According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 41 out of 63 localities in the country. As of Monday evening, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to over 10.74 million. On July 4, an additional 6,179 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to over 9.71 million. On Monday evening, one death related to Covid-19 was recorded, raising the total fatalities to 43,088, accounting for 0.4 per cent of total infections. A woman has drowned while her 13-year-old child remains missing after being caught in a rip current at Thien Cam beach in the central province of Ha Tinh on Monday morning. Aquatic exports spike 40% in H1

(Photo: VNA) HCM City (VNA) – Vietnam’s aquatic exports spiked 40% year-on-year to reach nearly 5.8 billion USD in the first half of 2022, the Vietnamese Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) has reported. The country earned more than 3.2 billion USD from aquatic exports in the second quarter of 2022, an increase of 36% from the same period last year. According to VASEP, shipments of shrimp picked up 7% – a quite modest pace – to total 450 million USD as a result of input shortages. Though, the sector experienced a strong growth of 33% in H1 to bring home 2.3 billion USD, accounting for 40% of the total seafood exports. Several producers have raised the shipments of high value-added processed shrimp products, instead of raw ones, to major markets like Japan, the US and the EU as a way to address input shortages.
