Worries about the side effects of COVID-19 vaccines and the quality of children’s jabs with extended expiration dates have made parents in Ho Chi Minh City hesitant to have their children vaccinated against the coronavirus, according to a recent survey. The municipal Center for Disease Control (HCDC) on Thursday announced the results of a rapid survey of 2,792 parents on vaccinations for children aged five to under 18 years old who are attending schools in 22 districts of the city. Of these parents, 76 percent have kids aged five to under 12, and the rest have children from 12 to less than 18 years old. Out of the more than 2,100 children aged five to below 12 involved in the survey, 34 percent had yet to be immunized, 33 percent had received their first vaccine shots, and the other 33 percent had gotten their third jabs. In the 12-18 age group, 15 children had yet to be inoculated while the numbers of those with the first, second, and third vaccine doses were 29, 326, and … [Read more...] about Children’s COVID-19 vaccines with extended shelf life worry parents in Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City’s foreign enclaves settle into ‘new normal’
Since Vietnam officially declared the COVID-19 pandemic under control earlier this year, foreign enclaves in Ho Chi Minh City have, once again, begun to bustle, with old stores resuming their operations and new shops opening every day in commercial spaces that sat unoccupied for months on end. Once Vietnam dropped its on-arrival COVID-19 testing requirement for foreign travelers and reopened its international air routes in mid-May, the number of foreigners entering the country began to increase, paving the way for foreign enclaves in Ho Chi Minh City to return to their pre-pandemic life. In Tan Phong Ward, District 7, home to a significant portion of the South Korean community in Ho Chi Minh City, many stores that shut down between late 2020 and early 2022 are once again open for business, and new shops are moving into commercial spaces that have sat empty for months. Kim Yong Min, a South Korean national living in District 7, shared that his eyeglasses stores, which mainly … [Read more...] about Ho Chi Minh City’s foreign enclaves settle into ‘new normal’

Vietnamese female pop star wows American online music publication
"The latest album from the Vietnamese pop artist is an empowering statement of purpose, at its best when pairing evocative storytelling with theatrical, large-scale production." Pitchfork compliments the 34-year-old artist for writing songs "replete with messages about finding joy in every moment" and hails her "slick" ability to maneuver between rapping and singing. The album review pointed out that her music has become more distinctive while encompassing inspiration from a wide range of cultures. It incorporates grandiose instrumentation; racing synth melodies and trap drums; rattling percussion and pogoing electronics; breezy disco-funk and filler words "la la la" that appear throughout traditional folk songs. "Her playful navigation of Vietnam past and present, something central to her art, exists even here." "Link" received a score of 7.2, no little achievement compared to Pitchfork’s high standards. This is the third Vietnamese album ever reviewed by Pitchfork , … [Read more...] about Vietnamese female pop star wows American online music publication
