With a result of 4 minutes and 18.10 seconds, Tran Hung Nguyen not only sustained his top position in the men’s 400m medley since the last Games held in 2019 but also broke the previous Games record of 4 minutes and 20.65 seconds set by himself. A man in Ho Chi Minh City has spent nearly 16 years collecting reel to reel tape recorders. Pham Quy Long, aka Tuan Akai, now owns a collection of reel to reel tape recorders and turntables worth nearly VND2 billion (U$86,600). Tuan Akai developed his interest in collecting the items after he saw a reel to reel tape recorder at a coffee shop. After asking the café’s owner to buy the recorder several times and being turned down, Tuan Akai insisted on convincing the owner to sell by visiting the venue constantly for three months until the owner finally agreed to sell it for VND6 million. Vietnam to lift pre-entry COVID-19 test requirements for entrants on May 15
Vietnam will remove the pre-entry COVID-19 test requirements for all foreign arrivals starting Sunday, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has directed. The direction, effective at 0:00 on May 15, comes as the numbers of COVID-19 infections and deaths drop both in Vietnam and around the world. In a dispatch issued on Friday, the PM cited the World Health Organization as announcing that the COVID-19 pandemic has tended to reduce in both patient numbers and fatalities on a global scale and that basic vaccines are still effective against variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. In such context, many countries have been taking steps to ease COVID-19 restrictions, including removal of pre-entry testing, the document said. The Vietnamese swimmer finished first with a time of 4:18.10 to take a gold medal. His new record was more than two seconds better than the 4:20.65 he set at the previous Games in the Philippines. It is also the new national record of Việt Nam. Nguyên was left behind in the first 100m butterfly but he came back in the second lap of backstroke and pulled ahead in the last two laps. Vietnam documents 1,594 COVID-19 cases on May 15

(Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – A total 1,594 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the past 24 hours from 4pm May 13 to 4pm May 15, a reduction of 301 infections against the previous day, according to the Ministry of Health. Hanoi reported the highest number of infections on the day with 461 cases, followed by Quang Ninh with 88, Nghe An 80 and Yen Bai 80. The national tally reached 10,696,630. A total 5,448 COVID-19 patients were given the all clear on May 15, bringing the number of recoveries so far to 9,355,040. There was no death reported on the day. Vietnam drops COVID-19 test requirement for foreign arrivals from May 15
The move came as the number of COVID-19 cases in Vietnam has decreased significantly since March 15 this year, according to an official document issued by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on May 14. The document also noted that the country has also seen a decreasing number of COVID-19 deaths, severe cases, and hospitalizations. Many countries have also relaxed COVID-19 curbs while existing vaccines are still effective against different variants of coronavirus. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is asked to direct Vietnamese agencies abroad to notify people wishing to enter Vietnam to comply with requirements on COVID-19 prevention and control as per the guidance of the Ministry of Health.
