Vietnam-Born bidder wins billion-dollar contract in U.S. Reported by Pham Le California Waste Solutions (CWS) has won a decisive campaign against its rival, Waste Management Inc., the largest waste treatment company in the U.S. The prize is a package worth US$2.7 billion, which allows CWS to manage waste collection and disposal for the Californian city of Oakland for 20 years. The Saigon Times interviewed CWS General Director David Duong on his winning of this package as well as implementation of projects in Vietnam. Q: Could you elaborate on this US$2.7-billion package? How long did it take for you to win it? A Vietnamese Canadian writer has recently won the 14th annual Canada Reads award from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). The Montreal-based author, Kim Thuy, won the award for her novel titled “Ru” (Lullaby) which was defended at the awards, themed “One Book To Break Barriers", by the artistic director of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Cameron Bailey. British-born Oliver Hart and Finland's Bengt Holmstrom won the Nobel Economics Prize on Monday for work that addresses a host of questions from how best to reward executives to whether schools and prisons should be privately owned. Their findings on contract theory have implications in such areas as corporate governance, bankruptcy legislation and political constitutions, said the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, which announced the 8 million Swedish crown ($928,000) prize. "This theory has really been incredibly important, not just for economics, but also for other social sciences," said Per Stromberg, a member of the prize committee and professor at the Stockholm School of Economics.
