The group with highest price increase is transport with a sharp rise by 1.72% versus last month, as a result of fuel price hikes on May 8 and 23. However, as this commodity group has little impact in the basket, its steep hike boosted the CPI up by only 0.16%, below that of the food and catering services group. The company also expect to increase the profit before tax by 8 per cent year-on-year to reach VND179 billion. Vissan expects to increase the food supply to the market this year from 15 per cent to 20 per cent to boost sales and profits. The company plans to supply 28,000 tonnes of pork, up 20 per cent, 1,700 tonnes of beef and 21,000 tonnes of processed food, up 15 per cent from 2017. The city’s Department of Industry and Trade is working on forming the trading floor, which will allow direct purchases, without intermediaries, from pig farmers. Large, growing pork markets such as China and Japan have not bought pork from Viet Nam through large scale exporting, but instead through small border trade as international trade requires higher food safety standards. The city has begun a programme to keep better track of pork origin to ensure higher-quality products. By the end of 2017, 2,644 pig farms and 38 slaughterhouses had joined the programme, according to the city’s Department of Industry and Trade.
