Vietnam’s Grand Prix must be financially sustainable
Hoàng Anh My first experience with a Grand Prix was back in 2008 when I was a student in Montreal, Canada. The Canadian Grand Pix took place in June with it came a real summer festive atmosphere. Long before the race even began, the parties took place in downtown with race cars parading on Montreal’s old streets with thousands of tourists flocking to the city for the attraction. The Formula One race is said to be an unforgettable experience: the crowd, the cars, the heat and the sound of tires. Never had I imagined that ten years later there would be a plan in place to bring the F1 race to my hometown Hà Nội. I have been watching the developments in suspense, not knowing for sure it will become a reality until it was officially confirmed on Wednesday. A 5.565km track is to be set up in the area of Mỹ Đình sport complex. There was talk that the race may take place in downtown, near the Old Quarter and many of the city’s relic sites and … [Read more...] about Vietnam’s Grand Prix must be financially sustainable

Russia signs 6-year deal to host F1 Grand Prix
Russia will host grand prix races near the Black Sea resort of Sochi starting in 2014 after signing a six-year contract with Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone on Thursday. Russia has tried to get on the F1 circuit before, but former Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov failed to reach an agreement with Ecclestone in 2002 to use the capital as a venue. The six-year deal also includes an option to extend it for another five. Russian media reported that the deal would cost Russia at least $40 million a year. "I sincerely hope that the Formula One is going to play a big part in what I can see happening in Sochi," Ecclestone said. "I'm sure the circuit can be a super circuit. It's all the things we need and wanted, and we are very happy." The F1 chief praised the work of Russia's sports organizers, saying: "They are trying to build absolutely first-class facilities both for the Olympics and the Formula One." Putin also met separately with top Russian businessmen to encourage them to support the … [Read more...] about Russia signs 6-year deal to host F1 Grand Prix
