Worshippers, monks, and nuns across Ho Chi Minh City gathered at local pagodas on Sunday to pray for peace and safety on the occasion of the Buddha’s Birthday. The grand ceremony celebrating the 2,566th Buddha’s Birthday was organized by the Central Committee and Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha at Vietnam Quoc Tu Pagoda in District 10. Senior woman hands over two otters to Ho Chi Minh City forest protection department
The forest protection department of Ho Chi Minh City received two otters from Nguyen Thi An, a 72-year-old resident of Thu Duc City, on Friday. The two otters that An voluntarily transferred to the authorities are two Asian small-clawed otters, whose scientific names are Aonyx cinereus, weighing about four kilograms each, according to an officer. They are classified as rare and endangered forest animals. Ho Chi Minh City police arrest suspect for stealing over 40 drain hole covers from $133mn bridge
Police in Ho Chi Minh City have arrested the suspect who stole more than 40 drain hole covers on Thu Thiem 2 Bridge, which cost US$133 million to build and was opened to traffic last month. A source close to Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper confirmed on Friday that the municipal Department of Public Security, in coordination with police in Ward 15, Binh Thanh District, had apprehended Nguyen Van Thai, 52. Thai is the suspect in the theft of over 40 drain hole covers on Thu Thiem Bridge 2. As per the protocol, the Ward 15 police unit had collected Thai’s statement before transferring the suspect and the case file to the Department of Public Security for further probing. Officers announced earlier the same day that they had initiated a manhunt for the suspect after having identified many of his features. HCM City to offer fourth COVID-19 vaccine doses next week
Ho Chi Minh City is expected to start offering fourth doses of COVID-19 vaccines to residents next week, according to Nguyen Hoai Nam, deputy director of the Municipal Department of Health. Priority will be given to more than 1.8 million people aged 50 years or older, Nam said on May 13 while meeting with voters in Districts No7 and Nha Be. The fourth COVID-19 vaccine shot will mostly be administered to elderly and high-risk populations. These booster shots will also be given to people aged 18 years or older with moderate to severe immunodeficiency or belonging to a group at high risk of exposure to COVID-19 such as healthcare workers, frontline workers, and people working in industrial parks.
